LEWESTON FASHION SHOW 2020
YEAR 7 Circus Hats with Sweets and Cake bags Imaginative and creative hats have been created by this year’s Year 7 pupils. Using designers such as, Manish Arora , Moschino, Viktor & Rolf, Elsa Schiaparelli and Philip Treacy as inspiration, pupils have produced a stunning array of fascinators and hats. Hand stitching, fabric manipulation and embellishment have been used to create these pieces. Paired with these hats are the previous Year 7s bags created from the theme of Sweets and Cakes. Using digital manipulation their original artworks were made into fabric transfers. Their fun and bright final pieces were constructed using sewing machines.
YEAR 7 Geometric Animals Inspired by the current trends for animals drawn using geometric shapes these patches incorporate sewable electronics. This technology used LEDs and conductive thread. To enhance the geometric shapes a slashing technique has been employed where several layers of contrasting fabric have been layered and stitched together. Layers are then strategically cut away to reveal the different fabrics.
YEAR 8 Space Fashions
With the theme of ‘Space’ students have learned how to alter a t-shirt on the stand, use dyes, machine sew, and create surface decoration. Pupils designed and cut their own stencils for screen printing their final designs onto their tshirts. Smart materials have been employed with the use of Thermochromic dyes that change from one colour to another in the presence of heat.
YEAR 8 Microscope Tops
This year’s Year 8 pupils looked ‘Under the Microscope’ for their inspiration for their t-shirt designs. Creating their t-shirts from scratch using a template, pupils used sewing machines to construct their t-shirts before adapting the shape on the stand. Dyes and fabric paints were then used to bring their final designs to life.
YEAR 8 Under The Sea T-shirts and Skirts With an ‘Under the Sea’ theme previous Year 8 pupils used dyes, fabric paints and appliqué techniques to create a spectacular array of designs. This project was then extended with some pupils creating circle skirts or tutus on a nautical theme to compliment their t-shirts.
YEAR 9 Eco friendly fashion upcycling Upcycle - reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original. With the topical theme of ‘Upcycling’ previous Year 9s have completed a year long project looking at the impact of the fashion industry on the environment before creating their own pieces. Using techniques that include fabric manipulation, dying and painting, image transfers and surface embellishments a fantastic range of imaginative garments has been created.
YEAR 9 Current (2019)
Collection for sustainable fashion Upcycling, with menswear Over a term, pupils have created a sketchbook, final piece and fashion shoot to showcase their work. Turning old garments into new, pupils have chosen a theme and their own outfit of choice to make. This year sees the inclusion of menswear for the first time.
YEAR 11 GCSE Pupils beginning their GCSE textile design course have created fashion garments inspired by ‘Organic vs. Manmade’ structures. During their practical exam they have created some the pieces seen here in just 10 hours Showcasing our GCSE set themes for this section include: Birds, sea life, fossils, crystals, and flora and fauna amongst many others. After viewing the fashion collections at the V&A many of the garments are inspired by these visits to London. The pupils experimented with many textile techniques and each garment is unique to the pupils’ styles. Experimenting with machine stitches, dyes, heat setting and marbling as well as the many techniques taught within the GCSE course.
YEAR 12 (Sixth Form)
Garments showcasing different eras of fashion. 1920s, 1950s and 1970s are seen in this section. Inspired by the silhouettes and social influences of the times each piece reflects the pupils research, attention to detail and creative flair.
YEAR 13 A Level
Students created their own theme as inspiration for these pieces. Themes such as the solar system, politics , feminism , identity , gender and cultural festivals . This section showcases our current and past Sixth Form pupils who have gone on to study creative pathways. Currently our year 13 has been offered a place to study fashion and textiles at Bath Spa, London College of fashion and St Martins.
FINALE WALK
This section includes all the students in the show in one last look at the beautiful creations gracing our runway. Please also give a warm welcome to our fabulous backstage crew, including tech team, ‘Glam Squad’, and teachers.
