SENIOR SCHOOL ACTIVITIES There are a wide range of extra-curricular activities every term to choose from. Activities typically start on the first week of term and Years 7 to 9 should select at least three activities or sports practices. Some activities have a maximum number of participants so places are allocated on a first come first served basis. Please note that by choosing a paid activity you are giving permission for the school to add the cost to your bill. There is supervised Prep for all pupils in the Pensabene Library Modnay to Thursday after-school. Please complete the booking form by the start of term using the form on the Parent Portal.

You will work on bespoke projects, internal and external competitions and commissions.
A choir that is open to all, with a focus on the performance of show tunes and popular music. The pupils choose the repertoire!

Thursday Lunchtime, All Years, Music School
You will learn basic woodwork skills and put them into practice on individual projects making final pieces to take home and treasure. There is a cost of approximately £25 per term to materials.
Musical Film Club
Open to all who are interested in the technological side of music and how this can be used for composition, using programmes such as Garage Band and Logic. You will also learn how to record and mix live performances. You will be given the chance to use the brand new equipment in our recording studio, and work as part of the music tech time for live performances.

Theatre Tech Club
You will get together to enjoy some of the all time great musical films and enjoy a shared emotioal experience this medium has to offer. You will also review the films collectively through discussion.

Ballet - Helen Laxton School of Dance
LAMDA
Wednesday After-school, times vary depending on group, All Years Taught by Claire Derrick from the Helen Laxton School of Dance. You will train in the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus which is suitable for all ages. The classes are arranged by age and ability. Private lessons are also available. There is a cost of £6.50 per group lesson charged on a termly basis.
You will prepare and use the theatre equipment to support the variety of school productions.
Various days and times, All Years Years 7 to 9 come out of one subject lesson every half of term. In Years 10 to 13 lessons are held at lunchtime, after school, in free or study periods. The Senior School runs two LAMDA groups due to the popularity of the activity. Pupils are allocated groups on a random basis by the Head of Drama. There is a termly charge of £217 for individual lessons and £165 for group. A terms’ notice is required if your child wants to stop LAMDA at any stage. A seperate LAMDA booking form is available through the Parent Portal.
CITIZENSHIP AND LANGUAGES HEALTH AND WELLBEING India - ASHA Project (Sherborne Joint School Partnership) Ad Hoc, students booked onto the trip, SSG/ Gryphon/Leweston You will take part in fundraising, team building and preparation for time spent with ASHA in India in 2020
Faith and Fellowship Group Tuesday Lunchtime, All Years, School Chapel You will have the opportunity to spend a brief time together each week for reflection, prayer, bible study, or student-led discussion. The group will be moderated by Mrs Twist, Chaplaincy Coordinator, or another member of the Chaplaincy Team in her absence. Everyone is welcome regardless of denomination.
Fundraising Society Ad Hoc, All Years, venue TBC You will plan and lead charitable fund raising in the School, if interested please see Mrs Griffiths or Mrs Littlechild.
German Club Wednesday Lunchtime, Years 7 to 10, Room 6 Beginners German, placing emphasis on speaking and listening activities, games and songs to be able to deal with practical situations.
Eco Committee Wednesday Lunchtime, All Years by invitation, Room 11 You will work with the International Eco Schools initiative to make Leweston an Eco School. The committee meets regularly, and there will be tasks undertaken by members between meetings.
Shooting Lessons Monday and Thursday Lunchtime and Monday and Wednesday After-school, All Years, Sports Hall There is a charge of £40 per term for lunchtime lessons and £50 for after-school lessons.
Spin Class Tuesday and Wednesday Lunchtime, All Years, Gym A 30-minute, high cardio, strengthening fitness session. using Technogym Spin Bikes. You will train cardio and strength in this low impact, high energy class.
Yoga Tuesday After-school, All Years, Eleanor Library A mixed ability group run by an external instructor, in the tradition of various schools of yoga. An ancient exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. Please complete the separate Yoga consent form for this activity. Charged at £10 per session on a termly basis, a minimum of 4 is required to run.
Fencing Lessons Wednesday Lunchtime and Wednesday and Thursday After-school, Sports Hall One to one fencing lessons for all standards. There is a charge of £11 per lesson.

Mindfulness and Wellbeing Wednesday After-school, Years 7 to 10, Health Centre Led by the school counsellor. Mindfulness maintains a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations and surrounding environment with openness and curiosity. It can reduce stress and improve emotional regulation and focus. Wellbeing covers themes that come up i.e. confidence; assertiveness; managing stress; healthy work/rest/play balance etc.

Open to Sixth Form chemists, you will prepare and deliver presentations to other students from five of the local schools. Transport in the School minibus will be charged.
Rhetoric Ad Hoc, After-school, Years 7 to 9, Room 15 An opportunity for Junior Scholars and AGT students to work together on a variety of problem-solving tasks, challenges, debates and presentations.
National Theatre Live Ad Hoc, All Year Groups Trips throughout the year to see live screenings of National Theatre plays at Dorchester. Tickets are available on a first come first served sign up basis via the Today Board. Please note there will be ticket cost with a small supplement to cover minibus transport.
Head’s Essay Sociey Ad hoc Lunchtimes, Year 12 invitation only, Conference Room An invitation only society providing an informal programme of discussions, debates and tutorials for selected Sixth Form pupils. The aim is to give some of our most able pupils the opportunity to think beyond the constraints of their A Levels and provide extra stimulation and challenge.
Senior Book Club Monday Lunchtime, Year 10 to 13, Room 22 Read yourself interesting! Relaxed lunchtime book club with fortnightly meetings. We will choose a new book to read each month, with meetings to discuss, encourage and support each other along the way! You will need to buy your own book.
You will explore the world of Micro:bits and coding projects that bring animation and physical computing to life. Come and try animation with Scratch, or have a go at web design. Use LED lights and sensors to bring robots to life or try coding a game with PyGameZero! Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced coder.
Psychology Club Tuesday Lunchtime, Years 7 to 10, Room 5 Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour. As a subject it has the potential to create a sense of wonder in anyone who studies it. The club aims to enable you to relate knowledge of human behaviour to the world around you.
Debating Club Wednesday After-school, Years 11 to 13, Economics Rooms You will develop and hone your public speaking and debating skills.

PREP SCHOOL ACTIVITIES The Prep School offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities every term as well as a supervised homework club and daily after-school care for Pre-Prep pupils. Some activities have a maximum number so places are allocated on a first come first served basis. Pupils are encouraged to maintain a suitable balance between activities and homework as well as make a firm and regular commitment to their chosen programme. Activities typically start on the first week of term.

Tae kwon do Monday After-school, 5 to 11 year olds
For pupils looking to improve their swimming. A widths based session where pupils work on technique and build up stamina.
Run by South West Martial Arts, there is a charge of approximately £60 per term.
Shooting Monday and Thursday Lunchtime, Years 3 to 6 Led by qualified shooting coaches this is a popular activity and due to the limited number of spaces (28 over the week) priority will go to Year 5 and 6. There is a charge of approximately £40 for the term.
Pre-Prep Running Club Monday Lunchtime, Reception - Year 2 An opportunity for pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 to further develop their running after working so hard during the run up to the Inter-House Cross Country event.
Swimming Monday, Wednesday and Thursday After-school, Nominated pupils only Pupils are invited to join these sessions as they need to be competent swimming the full range of strokes over a distance of two lengths continuously. If you would like to take part please email Mrs Smith on smiths@ leweston.dorset.sch.uk to establish if you are the right level. Pupils can be collected from the swimming pool no later than 17.30, those not collected from the pool will be ready for collection at 17.45 at the Prep School.
Computing Club Monday After-school, Years 3 to 6 Open to a maximum of 16 pupils. A chance to learn more about computing and try a range of new things.
Running Club Tuesday Lunchtime, Years 3 to 6 Each week pupils will take a different route on a continuous run around school grounds. Attending running club is a fantastic way to build up stamina for cross country and to improve general fitness.
Violin Taster Sessions Tuesday Lunchtime, Years 4 and 5 Have a go at learning how to play the violin with Miss McNiff. Maximum five pupils.
Girls Netball Tuesday After-school, Years 5 and 6 and Thursday After-school, Years 3 to 4 Netball club is an opportunity for girls to play more netball as this is the team sport played during the Spring Term.
International Club Tuesday After-school, Years 3 to 6 Every fortnight pupils will focus on a different country. They will get to learn about the language, the culture and try some of the native foods. There is a cost of £5 for the term.
Pre-Prep Homework Club Tuesday After-school, Reception to Year 2 An opportunity for pupils to complete one night of homework supervised by staff.
Tennis Lessons Wednesday Lunchtime, All Years Lessons with professional coaches from Sherborne Tennis Club. There is a charge of approximately £6.75 per lesson.

String Orchestra Thursday before School, Nominated pupils This group is by invitation only for pupils who play string instruments.
Pre-Prep Board Games and Puzzles Thursday Lunchtime, Reception to Year 2 A fun lunchtime club where pupils will have a chance to play board games and do puzzles during lunch break.
Plants and Pillars Thursday Lunchtime, Years 3 to 6 An opportunity to share prayer, explore faith and work together on different weekly themes with our Chaplaincy Coordinator. Each week Mrs Twist will explore different Bible passages, upon which there will be fun activities to complete. This club is very much open to all and provides a wonderful introduction to those interested in exploring their belief, or a weekly opportunity for reflection and development for those who have already been confirmed.
Boys Hockey Thursday After-school, Years 3 to 6 A chance for pupils play more hockey as this is the major team sport for boys in the Spring Term.
ABRSM Practice Thursday After-school, Instrumentalists Extra practice time for pupils taking a music exam in the Spring Term.
Running Reps Friday Lunchtime, Years 3 to 6 This club allows pupils to build up stamina and improve their speed by completing running challenges of various distances. Attending running club is a fantastic way to build up stamina for cross country, team sports and to improve general fitness.
Samba Band Friday Lunchtime, Years 5 and 6 At least six are needed for this club to run. Learn how to play some new instruments and be part of a band! There is a charge of approximatley £40 for the term.
LAMDA Various days and times, Years 2 to 6 LAMDA lessons will continue on the same days and at the same times as in the Autumn Term. There is a termly charge of £173 for individual lessons and £150 for group. We require a term’s notice if your child wants to stop LAMDA at any stage. It is very difficult to stop part-way through the School year as pupils take exams at the end of the Summer Term.
