Op 27 april 1971 richtte de Katholieke Universiteit Leuven op initiatief van toenmalig Algemeen Beheerder Guido Declercq de v.z.w. ‘Universitaire Pers Leuven’ op. De vereniging had tot doel ‘kennis te verspreiden en het wetenschappelijk onderzoek te stimuleren door o.m. het uitgeven van werken, reeksen en periodieken, dit alles in de ruimste zin.’ Dit jaar, in 2011, bestaat Universitaire Pers Leuven 40 jaar! In die tijd is upl trouw gebleven aan haar opdracht en uitgegroeid tot een ambitieuze wetenschappelijke uitgeverij met een internationale reputatie. Alle publicaties ondergaan een strenge beoordeling door een onafhankelijke editorial board en een netwerk van externe specialisten. Deze review procedure ligt aan de basis van ons publicatiebeleid. upl stelt alles in het werk om haar titels doelgericht onder de aandacht te brengen. Vindbaarheid en verkrijgbaarheid zijn daarbij sleutelwoorden. Wij maken niet alleen gebruik van de distributiekanalen van Cornell University Press en nbn International, maar ook van digitale mogelijkheden zoals Google Books en Amazon. On April 27th, 1971 Vice Chancellor Guido Declercq of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven established a foundation called ‘Universitaire Pers Leuven’. The purpose of the foundation was ‘to spread knowledge and support academic research by publishing works, series and periodicals, all in the broadest sense.’ This year, in 2011, Leuven University Press celebrates its 40th anniversary. Over the years lup has stayed true to its commitment to disseminate scholarly knowledge and has grown into an ambitious academic press of international standing. All publications are assessed by an independent editorial board and a network of specialist readers. This review procedure lies at the heart of our university press. lup is committed to bringing its publications to the attention of a targeted audience of readers.
