You‘re dealing with history, with places, with details –that fascinates me.” “
Dirk collects pressed pennies – mainly from Germany.
Stamps celebrate history, coins breathe new life into the life of historical figures, and trading cards tender to our hobbies, childhood memories or favorite sports. No matter what collectable lets our heart skip a beat, collecting is so much more than merely storing items. Preserving, displaying, safekeeping are the true passion that drives us all. Leuchtturm has been committed to designing accessories for collectibles for over a century, and we will continue sharing this passion with you.

LEFA
Bonded leather is a bookbinding material consisting of leather fibres and other sustainable, natural raw materials (natural tanning agents, natural latex, natural fats and dyes). By felting the leather fibres, the LEFA material achieves almost all the characteristics of natural leather. No other material comes so close to natural leather in terms of quality and workmanship as LEFA. The LEFA cover material we use is characterised by the best physical attributes of tensile strength, strong seams, durability, tear resistance, etc.).

Leuchtturm pre-printed albums: precise structure for discerning philatelists
Systematic beauty for your collection
A good collection thrives on clarity, order and a framework that reflects the value of the items collected. Illustrated albums from Leuchtturm have epitomised this philosophy for decades. Developed with the philatelist in mind, they combine professional precision with high-quality workmanship – and are therefore the foundation of many sophisticated collections.
The basis: over 120 collection areas, carefully and expertly structured by our in-house editorial team. Each album follows a clear philatelic logic, takes issues, varietiesand specialities into account and thus creates a reliable structure that provides orientation for beginners and supports experienced collectors.
Various binding systems are available for stylish storage – from classic screw post binders to modern ring binders. The high-quality bindings with durable gold embossing are not only functional, but also visually worthy of any collection. Preprinted albums from Leuchtturm are more than just storage: they are a system with a history – and a future.

Hawid stamp mounts:
How an idea transformed philately
The history of Hawid appears, at first glance, like one of many success stories, where a resourceful inventor and visionary entrepreneur created an economic miracle from the ruins of history post World War II and laid the foundations for the quality seal “Made in Germany”. However, Hans Widmaier’s creation in Berlin in 1945 went on to revolutionise one of the oldest hobbies in the world.
Widmaier was not only an engineer, he was also a passionate stamp collector. Indeed, his hobby was so important to him that Widmaier used his skills to find a solution to a personal collecting problem: Hans Widmaier wanted nothing less than the best possible protection for his stamp collection.
He pondered - there must be a way to protect these stamps. He had encountered polystyrene plastics whilst working for Siemens, as it was used to protect submarine cables. After all, if this material was able to withstand pressure in the depths of the ocean, it was sure to work just underneath the earth’s surface.
An idea coming to life: Widmaier buried his stamps – wrapped up in polystyrene film – in the ground. And the result of this experiment was nothing less than sensational: the stamps survived their time in the earth fully unscathed. The idea of perfectly protecting stamps had been born. After some initial obstacles and expensive pioneering work, the Hawid stamp mounts ® began their triumphant march around the world. They can be found in virtually every well-kept stamp collection and have been an integral item within the Leuchtturm range for many decades.
When the Hawid stamp mount celebrated its 75th anniversary, change was on the horizon:
the company – Hawid Hans Widmaier GmbH – ceased activity. This news caused a great stir in the world of philately. Even though alternatives had been around for a long time, many collectors remained loyal for decades to the traditional brand with the eye in its logo. Consequently, it came as a relief when Ingrid Widmaier, the daughter of the founder and longstanding director of Hawid, agreed Leuchtturm Gruppe to acquiring the brand.
Since 1 September 2021, the philatelic legacy of Hans Widmaier has been continued by Leuchtturm in the form of the popular Hawid stamp mount. The stamp mounts are made of polystyrene film (PS), which is PH-neutral and does not contain plasticisers. This extensive range comprises strips, block mounts and pre-cut mounts. The stamp mounts are available with either a black or a clear backing. Besides the stamp mounts, you will also find a stamp mount cutter for cutting mounts to the size required, a special adhesive to affix the stamp mounts onto the album pages as well as a glue pen to adhere two sheets.
Leuchtturm and Hawid have worked together for decades. Leuchtturm started to use the Hawid stamp mounts for its illustrated albums back in the sixties and continued to do so until it set up its own production of stamp mounts. As a result of its own global distribution relationships, Leuchtturm ensured that Hawid was well known in all relevant philatelic markets. Consequently, it was an honour for the market leader based in Geesthacht to maintain Hawid for stamp collectors throughout the world. Kurt Stürken, Senior Partner, was especially pleased when he signed the contract with Ingrid Widmaier back in 2021: “Birds of a feather, flock together”
The Hawid range of stamp mounts

217 mm in length, various heights. The strip is 4 mm higher than the size of the stamp. The width can be cut to size.
2. Hawid block mounts
In a variety of sizes for postal stationery, blocks of stamps, miniature sheets etc.

Bi-Collect United on one sheet: Mint and cancelled stamps! The idea for a double feature has found many fans among long-standing collectors. It is also of great help for beginners. You can see, at a glance, which stamps are still missing from your collection. Kabe bi-collect comes “ohne Falz” pages. The stamp images are printed twice on the sturdy card stock, once for the mint stamp and once for the cancelled version. Kabe ohnefalz (without mounts) is a special development of a transparent stamp mount that protects the stamp from both environmental and physical influences. The original-sized illustrations are arranged in logical groups. The album pages featuring a double linen hinge ensure a long service life. Wood-free and acid-free 175 g/m2. With stamp mounts.
