Joan C. Mullins was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. Moving
to South Carolina many years later, she began to paint and
to write some short children’s stories for the entertainment
of her own, and with thoughts of her children, grandchildren
and great-grandchildren that they might some day enjoy
them as well. For a time, her stories were tucked away in
a closet. “Reading them again gave me a chuckle,” she
says. Since then, her work has been published, and even
produced on the stage in the Lowcountry. Unfortunately,
little did Joan C. Mullins know that some day she would
be writing a story about the murder of her son, Thomas L.
Mullins, Jr.
