Europeen Voluntary Service Summer Programme Cycle Against Suicide
BreakOut - Suppo Since September BreakOut has been a very busy group! We attended the ‘lived lives lost’ exhibition in Buncrana. This exhibition is about suicide and the impact it has on family and the community. The exhibit was a real eye opener and everyone took something away from it. We organised a sponsored stay awake, which was a major success with all young people having a great time . We had lots of games, movies and food all while managing to fundraise much needed money for BreakOut.
ort for LGBT Youth
We also undertook Peer Leadership Training provided by Belong2 in Dublin. We have started LGBT awareness sessions including history, rights, stats, gender identity awareness and terminology. There’s nothing more fun than doing some learning and eating pizza. Two of our young people spoke at the launch of the LGBT safe & supportive schools. While we had another speaking at the Youth Work Ireland conference. Besides all the hard work we had lots of fun doing Come Dine With Me, a walk in Glenveagh and of course, our Christmas parties! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from BreakOut.
World Wide
Voices
The Worldwide Voices group of Donegal Youth Service is working on a project as part of the ‘No Hate Speech Movement Ireland’ to create art, photography and music to promote human rights on and offline. The Worldwide Voices group has been running for over 10 years, and is a multi-ethnic group of young people who are based in Donegal. The No Hate Speech Movement Ireland is part of the wider European No Hate Speech Movement which was started by the Council of Europe. Since November 2016 the group have been working on this six month project with artist in residence Franck Saucian to create a mobile piece of art based on the topic. The group has also taken part in photography, and music workshops as part of the No Hate Speech Movement with ‘Creativity Creates Change’ facilitators Layla Kuyper and Happymore Mutyoro over the past two months.

Gareth Gibson Information Manager said “This has been an annual event for 12 years now and is a great chance for families of the town to have a day out and appreciate young bands expressing themselves. It takes a lot of work behind the scenes to organise an event like this and the young people, volunteers and staff deserve a lot of credit. Furthermore, working in partnership with the Northwest Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force has benefited our event. All in all, a great day, the young people of the County did themselves proud, yet again” There was something for all of the young people of Donegal on the day. The Hexathlon mini-Olympics proved to be a great success, with the overall winners of the day receiving medals for their incredible abilities. There was also an all day art competition for the more creative types. Last, but not least we can’t forget about the smiling faces on the bouncy castles, and everyone falling off the rodeo bull! David Donnelly, supervisor of Letterkenny’s parks and open spaces said “From the council’s perspective we welcome this great annual event in the town park. It’s a very positive event for the community that’s well organised, and the park is always very well respected.” Donegal Youth Service would like to extend its warmest thanks to Donegal County Council, Letterkenny town park, An Garda Síochána, all of the volunteers, vendors, attendees, and everyone else who helped to make this event for the young people of Donegal a huge success.
