To get to Liberi, north of Caserta, you drive through shiny green fields and multicolored vineyards. You see the old tufa masserie (traditional farms) with their dovecots and the junk of travesty with well-cut stones.

You drive past the hamlet between isolated buildings and a baffling “square with flower boxes” right in the middle of the stunned country. Finally, you get to a dirt road with the acacia trees that scratch the car with their branches.

You sense the building’s geometries resting on a slab laid on high ground. You proceed on a red dirt path to discover that the square is nothing but the roof of a building (almost) drowned in the ground. A concrete building.

The actual “winery” with its production systems. The grapes “fall” from above into the machines. The vineyards with their grapes surround it closely.

The wine produced here is full-bodied and strong.
