Thank you for picking up (or taking a look online)at the 2025 GOLF DIRECTORY, which is a publication of Tee to Green Golf Magazine. Although the magazine is in its 30th year of business, this is the 29th edition of our Annual Golf Directory. Sometime during the summer, we will get started on our 30th edition and hopefully make it the biggest and best we’ve had. If you see anything in this Directory that we can improve on, please let us know. Also, when you are in one of our regions listed in this publication, give the courses in the front of the publication a try as they are the ones who provided support to us and made this Directory possible.

This 45-hole facility was built on former mining land owned by U.S. Steel. The courses are sculpted from the peaks and valleys of the Appalachians and feature scenic forests, numerous creeks and challenging elevation changes. The Ridge Course offers numerous elevation changes, heavy tree cover, and is incredibly photogenic. As a tribute to the area's mining past, the green at the par-5 third hole was built on a shelf of exposed shale rock. The Valley Course, which was completely renovated in 2021, has water in play on nine holes and features a great selection of different holes. The Back Yard is unique to the trail as it is a 9-hole walking only course with holes ranging from 59-132 yards. It has no water hazards and only a handful of bunkers.

Beautifully carved into the rolling terrain of Shannon Valley, the scope of this property will amaze even the most-traveled golfer. Ross Bridge was named one of the top golf resorts in North America by GOLF Magazine in 2019. The course meanders through indigenous landscape and around the 259-room Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa. Ross Bridge is the fifth-longest course in the world (8,168 yards from the tips). Symbolic of an old parkland-style course, 10 holes play along the banks of two significant lakes connected by a spectacular waterfall dropping 80 feet between the 9th and 18th greens.

With many national accolades on its resume, Kiva Dunes amenities are second to none on the Coast. The state’s highest ranked public golf course is a popular stay-andplay venue. Extremely close to the Gulf of America beaches, Kiva Dunes is located on the west side of Gulf Shores. The course, which can play at 7,100 yards from the tips, features water coming into play on 10 holes, wetland areas and a handful of waste bunkers. Yearly rates for 18 holes and a cart are $120-$140. Located across the street and part of the Historic Grand Hotel Golf Resort and Spa are the Dogwoods and Azalea courses. The Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa reflect the historic nature of the hotel property itself. The original 18 holes were built in 1947 and years later the facility was expanded to 36 holes. The courses enjoy the daily breeze from nearby Mobile Bay and wind through towering Southern Pines and 200-yearold Live Oaks. The Dogwood Course, which has recently played host to the 59th U.S. Women’s Senior Amateur Championship, was completely renovated in 2018. The Azalea Course was renovated in 2019. It gets its name from the many azalea bushes that line the fairways. Lakewood Club has been named several times to GOLF Magazine's Best Golf Resorts in America.
7001 Magnolia Grove Parkway Mobile 251.645.0075 www.rtjgolf.com
This 54-hole facility has received extensive upgrades in recent years. Magnolia Grove was recently named one of the ‘Top 50 Public Courses’ by Golf World Magazine readers. There are two (Crossings and Falls) championship courses and an impressive Short Course. The topography at Magnolia Grove features creeks, marshland, and lakes with all holes carved through indigenous hardwood and pine. The Crossings is open with a park-type ambiance. There are several holes with water and crushed oyster-shell waste areas. The Falls is the only par-71 course on the trail. It is characterized by large, liberally contoured greens and massive cloverleaf bunkers. The Short Course was named by Golf Digest as the best par-3 course in America. Located 13 miles west of downtown Mobile. Yearly rates for 18 holes (with cart) are $85-$125.

This 54-hole facility has terrain that drastically changes from one side of the property to the other. The Highlands course is one of the most picturesque and playable courses on the trail. The River course is the only Robert Trent Jones layout in the world designed without a single bunker. The River course is a throwback to the way courses were built long ago, where dirt was merely pushed up to create the greens and tees, leaving all else — including massive oak trees — as is. The Short Course is open and links-like with water in play on 11 holes. It is a great venue for golfers of all skill levels and alternating tees allow golfers to hit every club in their bag. Yearly rates for 18 holes (with a cart)are $75-$125. From I-65, take I-565 east for 15 miles then take Exit 17B south onto Hwy. 431 and the course will be 11 miles on your left. The facility is a 2.5-hour drive from Nashville, under four hours from Atlanta, 2.5 hours from Tupelo, Miss. and less than two hours from Birmingham.
990 SunBelt Parkway Muscle Shoals 256.446.5111 www.rtjgolf.com
The Shoals is home to two 18-hole championship courses (Fighting Joe and Schoolmaster) and sits high above Wilson Lake on the Tennessee River. The Fighting Joe course was the first RTJ Trail course to break 8,000 yards, measuring some 8,092 yards from the black tees. Travel +Leisure Golf named Fighting Joe one of the top new courses in 2004. This course is bordered by dunes-like mounds and also features tall grasses with wide fairways. The Schoolmaster (named for President Woodrow Wilson, who was responsible for getting Wilson Dam built and was also known as "The Schoolmaster" of politics), opened in 2005. It's hard to beat the beauty that the 18th hole holds on the high bluffs over the river (see picture above), but the waterfall guarding the second green sure comes close. This course has narrower fairways and well-protected greens and comes in at 7,971 yards from the tips. The popular Couples Championship is held at The Shoals each September. Yearly rates for 18 holes (with cart) are $90-$125. The facility is less than two hours from Birmingham, a 4.5-hour drive from Jackson, Miss., 68 miles from Huntsville, 135 miles from Nashville, 153 miles from Memphis, 170 miles from Chattanooga and 225 miles from Atlanta.

This 27-hole facility is comprised of three sets of nines — Canyon, Loblolly and Sherling. Only 40 miles from Montgomery, these courses are well worth the drive as Golf Digest named Cambrian Ridge as its third-best new public course in 1994. The Loblolly and Sherling nines were completed in 2013 and 2014. The Canyon nine redesign and reconstruction were completed in 2016. The Canyon is target-style golf carved in former hunting grounds. The Loblolly has gently rolling fairways, massive bunkers, cathedral-like pines and water-front greens. Those characteristics give it a stately Augusta-like quality. The Sherling starts at the high point of the county and then drops to play along Sherling Lake before an uphill climb on its final hole. The facility is 100 miles from Dothan and 127 miles from Mobile.

This 54-hole facility was once named the secondbest public-golf facility in the country by Golf World readers. Golf Magazine called the Judge course one of the 10 public courses in America. The Senator was named among the Top 10 New Courses in the nation by Golf Magazine and hosts the LPGA's Epson Tour Guardian Championship each September. The facility is located just eight miles north of the state’s capital city of Montgomery. The courses (Judge, Legislator and Senator) are laid out over 1,500 acres. There is also a 360-degree driving range which is 400 yards in diameter. The Judge offers stunning views of the Alabama River. The first tee lies 200 feet above the fairway overlooking the river and the Montgomery skyline. With 14 holes adjoining the water and a bulk-headed island green, the Judge is described as simply magnificent. The Legislator(closed until October) is a more traditional course, which plays in and out of pine trees and along a bluff overlooking the Alabama River. Enjoy the view riding down the ‘Sky Bridge’ for six holes laid out in a native cypress swamp as you are led back up the bluff to finish the course at the spectacular clubhouse. The Senator, a Scottish-Links style course, holds more than 140 pot-hole bunkers and mounds 20-40 feet high, hiding the cart path or any other hole from view.
3000 Robert Trent Jones Trail (Opelika) 334.749.9042 www.rtjgolf.com
Voted the No. 1 public golf facility in America by the readers of Golf World, Robert Trent Jones Sr. is on record saying that Grand National was the single greatest natural site for golf he had ever seen. This 54-hole facility is built on 600-acre Lake Saugahatchee with 32 of the holes draped along its shores. With countless national accolades, Grand National is perhaps the only facility in the country to host a NCAA Division I Men and Women’s National Championships as well as events for the LPGA Tour, Symetra Tour, Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour. The Lake Course hugs the lakeshore with all four of its par-3s along the lake and also features an island green on the 15th hole. The Links Course is newly renovated and the cornerstone of the facility. The Short Course is just as beautiful as the other two tracts. It has more than half its holes touching the lake. Yearly rates for 18 holes (with cart) are $95-$125.
904 Royal Parkway (Dothan) 334.712.2820 www.rtjgolf.com
This 36-hole facility is made up of the Highlands, Magnolia, Marshwood and Short courses. The Highlands/Magnolia combination was named by Golf Digest's "Places to Play" as one of the nation's Great Value courses. This facility features some of the longest and most classically designed holes on the Robert Trent Jones Trail. Each nine has a different personality. The Highlands is relatively open with several lakes in play on four of the nine holes. It also features a peninsula green. The Magnolia features namesake trees along the higher ground and a 1,000-foot long wooden bridge over marshlands. The Marshwood is notorious for its par-5 sixth hole, which measures 701 yards from the tips! The Short Course winds through massive pine trees and has three holes where water comes into play. Dothan is 112 miles south of Opelika, 107 miles from Tallahassee and 150 miles from Pensacola.

Located in Brevard County’s southern boundary sits this championship layout near the Indian River Lagoon and the nature preserve of Grant-Valkaria. The course is a haven for wildlife (sandhill cranes, gopher tortoises, scrub-jays to name a few). While playing here, you get a sense of solitude as you experience wetlands, pine forests and rolling terrain. Each hole is a unique test starting with the par-5 first, which plays 524 yards from the tips. Three of the last four holes on the front nine are par-4s (the exception being the par-5 8th). The back nine a nice collection of par-4s (Nos. 14-16). In fact, all the holes here are unique and have some type of challenge to them with mounded fairways, water features and elevation changes. Yearly prices for 18 holes (with a cart) are $30-$59. From I-95, take Exit 173 east onto Malabar Road SE, then take a right on Hwy. 507 (Babcock Street SE) and then a left onto Valkaria Road and the entrance to the course will be on your right. This facility is right next to Valkaria Airport and 72 miles from Orlando International Airport.

Designed by legendary Palmer Enterprises and opened for play in 1977, this popular par-67 layout is much more than your average ‘executive’ golf course. This 18-hole oasis sits comfortably between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River. From the tips, it plays just over 5,000 yards but with water and palm trees (there are over 800 of them) there are plenty of challenges among the six par-3s, 11 par-4s and lone par-5. The front nine — par 33 — starts out with three par-4s. No. 13 (446 yards from the tips) is the longest hole on the course. No matter what hole you are playing on this enjoyable and popular course, there are unpredictable ocean breezes, which presents its own challenges. Speaking of challenges, there are seven ponds that come into play on half the holes. Yearly prices for 18 holes (with a cart) are $30-$59. From I-95, take Hwy. 192 towards Melbourne until it ends at the A1A and the course is three miles south.
