Woollen Mills Est 1947

Creswick is situated on the Midland Hwy and is well located for access to Melbourne (1 hour) or Daylesford and Ballarat (20 mins).

It lies at the heart of the central goldfields and is close to the Hepburn spa country and Macedon Ranges. Built during the gold boom of the 1850’s the town still retains an old fashioned charm due to its wide boulevards and grand well preserved architecture.

The town itself is home to the Creswick Woollen Mills (See opposite), the last remaining coloured spinning mill of its kind in Australia. They have a retail store for mum and dad, but also resident alpacas that the kids will love. During October/November each year you can see them being shorn! Check www.creswickwool.com for further details.

Creswick/Ballarat The Tangled Maze (See opposite) is 5km out of town and has a botanic maze with a mystery trail. There is a great mini golf course and you can also have a game of giant chess or noughts and crosses. The cafe serves up tasty treats 7 days a week. The Novotel Forest Resort (See below) is THE place for families to base themselves at when exploring the area. As well as a world class golf course, they have riding tracks through the adjoining forest, an indoor heated pool, kids activity/games area, and during school holiday periods, they run daily kids’ activities. It is a great spot to use for exploring Ballarat’s many activities.

A day or two in Ballarat offers you a glimpse into living history.

Born in the romantic, turbulent and exciting gold rush era of the 1850’s, Ballarat’s story is entwined with our nations own history. From the days of Peter Lalor and his fight for miner’s rights at the Eureka Stockade to the discovery of gold in the district that made Ballarat and Melbourne two of the richest cities in the world at the time.

They may even learn something about the role Bendigo played in the history of our great nation. More gold was found in Bendigo between 1850 - 1900 than anywhere in the world. Around 9 billion dollars worth of gold was found in Bendigo, making it the second highest producing gold field in Australia after Kalgoorlie, and the seventh richest field in the world. There was very little surface gold, it was contained in rich quartz reefs stretching all over the city. Therefore a great deal of underground mining had to take place with kilometres of shafts and tunnels having to be dug and blasted to get HEATHCOTE

LetsGoKids Melbourne 2014

Eat It’s time for a food break and you’ve come to the right place!!! Melbourne has an abundance of casual eateries and food experiences that are perfect for a relaxed family meal or that special occasion. We are lucky to also have many great pubs that love families and provide great activities and facilities for the kids. Here is a selection of the many “eat” areas around Melbourne.

Photo courtesy of Visions of Victoria

Lygon St - Known as Melbourne’s Little Italy! A short tram ride or 10 -15 mins walk from the City. Parking is at a premium. It has long been a Melbourne favourite for friendly, Italian style family dining. There are restaurants, takeaways, cafes all doing what Lygon St is famous for - PIZZA, PASTA and GELATI.

Lt Bourke St - CHINATOWN - Located between Exhibition and Swanston Sts, this area is the hub of Chinese activity and dining in Melbourne. There are dozens of restaurants offering all types of Chinese provincial food (with a bit of Aussie flavour). Yum Cha on Sunday sees the area packed with people and is a great experience of sights, sounds and smells

Hungry? Ah, food.........mmmmmmm!!!

Southbank - By the Yarra in front of the Crown Entertainment Complex is a selection of “al fresco” offerings. Get a great view of “life passing by” as you enjoy your meal. There is also a food court for sit downs or takeaways inside the west end of the Crown complex. Port Melbourne, South Melbourne, Middle park & St Kilda These bayside suburbs are a short tram ride from Melbourne, and offer a mix of eateries (mainly seafood), as well as the much loved fish and chip shops! Acland St is also great for a cake and coffee. Sydney Road - BRUNSWICK - The old working class suburb is a short tram or taxi ride from the city and allows you to sample the best Middle Eastern, Greek and Turkish cusine. Restaurants, sweet shops and bakeries are everywhere and are normally very inexpensive. Brunswick St - FITZROY - Take your pick from an array of cafés and restaurants, like the famous vegetarian spotVegie Bar and a mix of national foods from just about every culture on Earth! For the adventurous!!! Pubs all around Victoria The Zagames hotels (www.zagames.com.au), Castellos (www.castellogroup.com.au) and many of the ALH hotels (www.alhgroup.com.au) have playgrounds, video games, movie nights and entertainment that will keep the kids amused so mum and dad can enjoy themselves too.
