R obe rt & Pat t y S w e i sbe r g e r M I A M I S HOR E S , F L AQHA Champion and two time AQHA All Round High Point Performance Mare, RV Flashy N Radical aka Callie, delivered the first foal of the Good Better Best 2019 season on January 14th. “Sully” was born late in the evening at Springwater Farm located in Southwest Ranches, Florida. Springwater Farm is home to renowned trainer Mark Stevens, Tony Mocny and Rod Espinosa. Owners Patty and Robert Sweisberger have been training with Mark Stevens since 1986. They have been breeding on and off since 1991. Patty and Robert purchased RV Flashy N Radical from Ronnie and Vicki Kent in 2007. Under the training of Mark, Callie was the AQHA All Round High Point Performance Mare two years in a row in 2013 and 2014, achieved two Amateur Superiors, five Open Superiors, and with points in Halter, Performance Halter, Trail, Western Riding, Western Pleasure, Hunter under Saddle and Reining she reached AQHA Champion status. Callie also achieved multipleTop 5 and Top 10 at the AQHA World Show, as well as NSBA World and Congress. During Congress 2017, Mag caught the eye of one of the Sweisberger’s trainers and best friends, Susan Steele, during his winning 3 YO Hunter under Saddle performance. She loved the way he moved and carried himself, so much so that she text Mark and Patty immediately. Susan knew Patty was looking for a stallion to breed RV Flashy N Radical to, and they all felt they had just found him! After speaking to Susan about him at length, and looking at Mag’s pedigree, everyone felt it would be a great match. Mark Stevens called and spoke to Nancy Sue and it was a done deal. And so, 11 months later, Sully was born, aptly named after the famous pilot, who safely landed a US Airways flight in the Hudson River, due to

8   MAG Unbridled

“SULLY” GOOD BETTER BEST X RV FLASHY N RADICAL his propeller-like blaze. Thank you Amy Bragg for the idea! Robert and Patty met in 1983 and have been married for 34 years. When they met Patty had 2 horses, 4 dogs and 2 cats. Robert only had a pet rabbit. Their wedding gift to one another was a 5 month old palomino mare named Peachy Pie, who reminded Patty of one of her first horses, Banner. When it came time to break her they sent her to Mark for a few months, and she never left! She went on to be a 3 time PHBA World Champion in Open and Amateur Western Pleasure and had over 180 AQHA points. Peach passed away in 2007 and that is when they bought Callie. Sully is Callie’s third foal. Sully came out strong and gentle and was all legs when he was born. He has an amazing disposition and just wants to please. He is such a character! His favorite thing to do is sleep under the hay bag and turn green, a good old Irish lad! Patty and Robert have an AQHA name in mind but it is a secret until it’s official! When asked about what’s next for them, Robert and Patty said “we are so looking forward to Sully’s show career! With the talent he got from his mom and dad it should be fun! We are all about having fun! Family, friends and fun!”

“ROSE” GOOD BETTER BEST X LIL BIT A ART

My husband Jeff and I never planned on breeding AQHA Hunter Under Saddle horses, it was only about 13 years ago that we bought our first broodmare Lil Bit A Art at a local horse sale. We were mainly there for entertainment, my sister and her husband had come along also, we were looking at some western broodmares, which was something new to us, I normally just had one or two show horses and ran the local open show circuit. I couldn’t help but notice this big stunning chestnut mare working in the pen. I had never seen a horse like her, I just couldn’t keep my eyes off her. I jokingly said to my sister, “hey , we should pool our money and buy that mare”, I was sure she would go way out of my price range. We just laughed , and went to sit down to watch the sale. A while later my sister tapped me and said,’ we want to do it.’ We came home with Lil Bit A Art and our plan was that I was going to start showing AQHA. After a few day of trying to ride

10   MAG Unbridled

her we contacted the original owner and found out she was sold as broodmare sound only at a sale just a month prior and then turned around and presented as a show horse. Little did I know at the time, that was God’s plan for us. We decided to breed her to Skys Blue Boy, my favorite Stallion at the time, and her first foal was our mare Blue Skys Movin In, she ended up becoming a NSBA World Champion and AQHA World top five HUS mare. I trained and showed her myself - she was amazingly talented. The next foal she had was a mare named Boys Move Over, who became a Multiple World Champion HUS Mare under Nancy Sue Ryan and Courtney Brockmueller. Now that Lil Bit A Art is getting older, I was hoping for just one more foal out of her. When I saw Good Better Best, I thought he was just stunning, I liked that he would add more body to my mare, had a great disposition, beautiful movement, and just had that “something special” like my mare. To top it off he covered her on the first shipment, and she is normally a hard breeder, so he has great semen quality also. We now have the most beautiful filly whom my daughter named Rose, I am absolutely in love with her - she is so fancy and just perfect, I could not be happier with her. This year I plan on breeding both of my mares back to Good Better Best.

“LILLY” GOOD BETTER BEST X IM A MESS IN A DRESS March 16, 2019 Mom and I was curious if anything was for sale that carried that blood line. Karen told me about “Whit” who is by Coats N Tails (out of Lucy’s Mom - Ultimate Contessa) and we knew what Lucy had produced so we decided to take the risk on purchasing Whit from The Boxells as we felt that maternal line was very strong. Whit had never been shown and was 4 years old when we bought her in 2016. She had actually carried one baby as a recip mare for Karen’s show mare.

My parents (Doug and Sandy Mundrick) own Kedgewood Farm in Madison, GA. My boyfriend and I recently moved closer to the farm as we are diving more into the breeding side of the business. Although I have shown for over 20 years, "Lilly" is only the 4th foal that we have bred and raised so this is a newer experience for us. IMA MESS IN A DRESS, “Whit” was purchased for multiple reasons: Her maternal sister (Good Timin Lucinda “Lucy” by Good Time To Shine) was the mother to only two foals as she passed in 2013. We still own both who are both by different western pleasure studs and BOTH Reserve Congress Champs! Since we wanted something that would throw huntseat babies and had Lucy’s daughter to breed for pleasure babies, I reached out to The Boxells as I knew they still had Lucy’s 16   MAG Unbridled

I remember the first time I saw MAG in person! We were at the 2017 Congress and Pinetree Quarter Horses (my trainers) were stalled in the barn with NSR and we had watched him being ridden. We were looking for a huntseat stallion to breed our mare to. MAG was stunning to look at and so sweet...we knew that he'd be a good fit for our mare with his calm demeanor. He was in his stall when we met him in person. Courtney Brockmueller’s little boy was going in and out of his legs and MAG did nothing...we fell in love with him. I loved MAG's daddy and to have a piece of GOOD I WILL BE in this baby was icing on the cake. So needless to say, he won my family and me over immediately. Whit did a great job with Lilly, we are super excited about her potential, she is very sweet and curious and put together great! I plan on showing her in the future and leaning towards registering her as BEST MESS N A DRESS!!!  RUNNINGSTAGFARM.COM

FUN TO BE BEST GOOD BETTER BEST X FUN LOVIN LUKE January 6, 2018

I like Good Better Best for kind of a silly reason. Besides the fact that he is a great horse, he has the same sire as one of my favorite horses (Willy Has Potential). They are both by Good I Will Be. When Nancy Sue said she loved Mag the way I love Willy I had an even stronger attachment to him. Then the pictures from Congress came out and there was no denying the similiarities between the two!!! I originally saw pictures of Deion on Facebook and fell in love with the way he looked. I went to Nocona, TX and saw him...I loved the way he loped and thought he was just beautiful (I am a sucker for a bay with a big white face)! I decided then that he needed to be with me. I watch him play every day in the pasture and he continues to lope like a Rock Star!

Horses have owned me for (*gulp) 37 years now. I grew up riding mostly Thoroughbred hunters. In the mid 1990’s I was introduced to my first Appendix AQHA and I haven’t looked back since. The big, hunter bred AQHA are the best of both worlds in my opinion. I began breeding them in earnest around 1995. Up until a few years ago I bred prospects every year, I put it on the back burner for awhile in order to participate in my kids’ sports endeavors. Now that they have grown and my son is done playing college football, I have the time to dedicate to the young horses again and have slowly been resurrecting our breeding program. TradeWind Farm is once again breeding a limited number of high quality foals. I like to say we are boutique breeders. I heard about Mag from Melanie Larabee. She and I have been friends for a number of years. So, when I wanted to start looking for a stud prospect, she was one of the first people I reached out to. She knows what I like and has eyes on great prospects all the time. She started talking about Good, Better Best and some of the offspring she was seeing. When Elton (formerly Xavier at the breeding farm) was born, she sent me pics within a few hours and I was sold. We decided to purchase him when he was close to 8 weeks old. I loved his Dam. I really loved his Grand Dam and I felt like adding the stellar pedigree that Mag was bringing to the table, this colt would have a ton of potential. I wasn’t wrong. Elton is a gentle giant. Quiet and sweet with a bright mind. We have big plans for him and have him nominated for several futurities so that when he is old enough to show we can maximize his exposure at larger shows. We’d love to see him turn out as a stud prospect, but even if plans change, he will make an exceptional show horse be it as a stallion or gelding. Talented enough for the open and quiet enough for the Amateur to maintain at home. tradewindfarm@gmail. com
