SAT EXAMINATION

Students who are considering applying to universities in the United States or private universities in Europe which have highly selective entrance examinations (such as Bocconi), are urged to have focused exam preparation. It is usually recommended to begin anywhere from G10 to IB1, with students taking the exam in June at the end of IB1 or in October at the beginning of IB2. Le Régent coordinates three options to help interested students prepare for the SAT during the summer and academic year:

In combination with le Rosey, Régents are offered a chance to intensively prepare for the SAT immediately after the end of the summer term while sailing the Croatian coast. They study in the morning and visit cities and sail in the afternoon. There is a 1:1 student to staff ratio and a private chef onboard. Destinations include some of the most famous places on the Adriatic Sea, including Dubrovnik, Split, Trogir, Hvar, Vis, Korcula, and Mljet. This intensive 8-day trip is the equivalent of one term of exam preparation.

• Cost: CHF 9’700.-

• Limited to 6-7 students

• For more information or registration, contact our university counsellor matthew.tomich@regentschool.ch.

Students will board at Le Régent and in addition to SAT preparation, which have a morning track option of focusing on the SAT (or University Application or Future in Finance), with afternoon options of golf, mountain sports, media making, or art in nature. For more information, see the Régent Camps brochure

• Cost: CHF 11’800.- + CHF 800.- pocket money

• Limited to 32 students (16 boys/16 girls)

• For more information, contact info@regentcamps.ch.

• Registration available here

IN-SCHOOL SAT PREPARATION: NOVEMBER 2023 - MAY 2024

Le Régent students are offered group tutoring for the SAT exam through AlphaPrep, a top SAT tutoring service often used by Swiss boarding schools. Lessons are online and include a two-day, in-person intensive session at Le Régent with Josh Lippmann, founder of AlphaPrep. Exact dates and costs will be announced in October 2023. If you have any questions about this course or university planning, do not hesitate to contact Mr. Tomich at matthew.tomich@regentschool.ch.

SAT AT SEA: 25 JUNE - 2 JULY 2023 SAT SUMMER CAMP AT LE RÉGENT: 2 - 22 JULY OR 23 JULY - 12 AUGUST 2023

SECTIONS

SENIOR SECTION (IB1 - IB2) & UNIVERSITY GUIDANCE

All IB courses have a coursework element (IAs). This term, the IB1 students will start their coursework in science. The ESS students will start with some fieldwork practise in April to develop their skills ready for their coursework at the beginning of June. The biology, chemistry and physics students will take part in the Group 4 project, a trans-disciplinary project, where they will be investigating the impact of altitude on a science area of their choice. This will then be followed by their coursework at the beginning of June. Please note that Saturday, 22 April and Saturday, 3 June are compulsory weekends for completion of the students’ IB science requirements.

IB2 students will be starting their IB exams on 28 April, and these will run until 19 May. Information will be sent out to parents in the first week of term regarding details of the examinations. We wish our IB2 students all the very best for their exams.

UPPER SECONDARY SECTION (G9 - G10)

It looks to be a busy yet exciting term for upper secondary students. G9 will be continuing with their learning, concluding in assessments towards the end of the term, beginning on 9 June. A welcome break from revision will be the summer overnight expedition prior to this, beginning on 2 June G10 will keep working hard towards their IGCSE and Pre-IB summative assessments, running from 16 May-9 June. Further information regarding these examinations will be sent out in the next few weeks. Please note that all students are expected to be in school until the last day of the summer term.

We wish students all the best for this challenging and yet motivating term ahead!

LOWER SECONDARY SECTION (G6 - G8)

The summer term is always a time when students start to think about what they have achieved so far, as well as looking ahead to end-of-year assessments. In the lower secondary section, assessments are undertaken in a more informal and relaxed manner than in the higher sections and staff fully brief their students as to what and how they will be assessed.

At this age, assessments are utilised to ascertain what the students do not know and how best to support their learning in the future. The best preparation for them is to engage fully in each and every lesson with a positive and focused manner - which is actually what we expect in all lessons throughout the school year!
