This prayer diary update is for use individually or with small groups as a focus of praise to our heavenly Father God, for His goodness and blessings which enable the work of The Leprosy Mission.

JUNE: LEPROSY CHANGEMAKERS

Although the cure for leprosy, Multidrug therapy, has been available since the 1980s, millions of people remain undiagnosed and untreated. Too often, a late diagnosis leads to disabled hands and feet, and even blindness.

Please pray with us that, through educating and supporting communities affected by leprosy, there will be an end to this disease in our lifetime.

WEEK 1 Give thanks for volunteers like Deolina who work within their communities to teach them the truth about leprosy. As trusted village members, people like Deolina help their communities break down the stigma around leprosy. They bring love, hope and healing to those affected by this disease.

WEEK 2

WEEK 4

Praise God for all of our valued supporters who partner with us to end leprosy. Ask for new supporters to pray and share their finances so that people like Zaina (cover picture) can be healed of leprosy and welcomed back into their communities.

With limited access to medical services, many people with the symptoms of leprosy seek help from traditional healers. These people are only able to offer herbal remedies and rarely have the knowledge and skills to correctly diagnose leprosy.

WEEK 3 Thank God for the local church leaders in Mozambique who are being trained by our team to find new cases of leprosy and prevent discrimination. Pray that these relationships go from strength to strength as they work together to tackle leprosy.

Give thanks that our team are now working with traditional healers, encouraging them to refer anyone with the signs of leprosy to a qualified health worker. Pray for increased trust and respect between our team and the traditional healers.

MARCH: PRAY FOR MOZAMBIQUE PERFECT LOVE DRIVES OUT FEAR. “ ” THERE IS NO FEAR IN LOVE, BUT

Already one of the poorest countries in the world, Mozambique has been devastated by cyclones, floods, insurgency and disease over the past few years. In these extreme conditions, it is often people affected by leprosy who suffer the most.

Despite the difficulties brought about by Covid-19, our team have continued to work tirelessly to bring healing to people affected by leprosy. Their love and commitment shine through in everything they do and are a witness to their faith and trust in God. WEEK 1 Until 24 April 2021, donations to The Unconditional Appeal will be matched by the UK government.

Praise God for this amazing opportunity.

This will help to build Hubs of Hope in rural villages, these are small community centres, from which people will be diagnosed and cured of leprosy.

Pray that The Unconditional Appeal will engage many new supporters who will partner with The Leprosy Mission to end leprosy in Mozambique.

WEEK 2 Due to extreme poverty in Cabo Delgado, people are vulnerable to leprosy and the threat of new diseases like Covid-19.

Pray for protection over our team in Mozambique and the people we serve.

HUBS OF HOPE TRANSFORM LIVES AND COMMUNITIES

Ask God to make the path straight so that our work in this region can continue without disruption.

WEEK 3 Give thanks for our previous projects in Mozambique, which have helped communities to develop centres for leprosy awareness and self-care.

Pray for wisdom as our team use the learning from this work to replicate the project in new regions.

APRIL: COMMUNITY

WEEK 2

Many people in Mozambique live in rural areas where life is centred around community and village gatherings. Through The Unconditional Appeal, Hubs of Hope will be built as safe and welcoming places in the community. People will use the hubs for healthcare, wellbeing services and job training, equipping them to fight leprosy and poverty. They’ll also learn about protecting their crops and livelihoods from the impact of extreme weather.

WEEK 4 Thank God for people like Arie de Kruiff (Country Leader in Mozambique) who dedicate their lives to following Jesus’ footsteps, bringing healing and hope to people affected by leprosy. Just as God’s perfect love casts out fear, pray that the care and compassion shown by each of our Mozambique team will relieve the anxieties of those who suffer with leprosy.

WEEK 1 In many parts of Africa, subsistence farming is a way of life. It is the only means by which many families survive, but it provides a limited diet and often leads to weak immune systems. This method of farming also results in poor soil quality for future generations.

Give thanks for the success of the three-year FCDO (formally DFID) Livelihoods and Food Security Project. This trained farmers to use sustainable techniques, vary and improve crop yields, and start savings groups. Pray that many more farmers will be trained through the Hubs of Hope funded by The Unconditional Appeal.

Praise God for volunteers like Mario who visit homes and villages, telling people about leprosy and encouraging anyone affected to seek treatment before they become disabled by the disease. Pray that new volunteers will be recruited and trained through Hubs of Hope, so that disability caused by leprosy can be prevented.

WEEK 3 Government healthcare and services for leprosy treatment are very limited in Mozambique.

Through Hubs of Hope funded by The Unconditional Appeal, health workers like Gabriel will be trained to diagnose and cure

people with leprosy. Give thanks for health workers who travel hundreds of miles to find and help those with leprosy.

Pray for safe travel and protection over all who have devoted their lives to this cause.

WEEK 4 Because of low literacy, traditional songs, dance and drama are often used to share messages and teach lessons in African culture. Give thanks that our team have been able to use these to tell communities about leprosy. Please pray that this method of educating people about leprosy continues to break down stigma and discrimination.

The vision of The Leprosy Mission is not only to bring physical healing to all people affected by leprosy, but also independence and fullness of life as promised by Jesus.

WEEK 1

WEEK 3

Extreme and unpredictable weather conditions can be devastating for those living in rural Mozambique, especially farmers who rely on crops for their income. Give thanks that farmers can learn about extreme weather at the community hubs and how to protect their crops. Pray that in future years this will mitigate against some of the effects of climate change.

Give thanks that, through solar panels installed on the Hubs of Hope, villagers can gather to watch short training films on topics such as business skills and ideas, recognising the signs of leprosy, and self-help for people affected by leprosy. Please pray that the information shared helps communities to work together to tackle both leprosy and poverty.

WEEK 2 The rates of unemployment in Mozambique are especially high amongst young people. Please pray that more young people will be able to access training and job opportunities through the Hubs of Hope funded by The Unconditional Appeal.

WEEK 4 Thank God for the innovative technologies that are helping our team improve quality of life for people affected by leprosy in Mozambique. Pray for more new methods that will allow the team to make the most of the limited resources available to them.
