First Day, Saturday 18th November 2023 WELCOME TO NAVAN RACING FESTIVAL On behalf of the Navan Racecourse Team and Committee, I am delighted to welcome you all to Day One of the Navan Racing Festival! This is the start of a big weekend at the racecourse and in Navan town and we are delighted to welcome you all to what should be a fantastic day of jumps racing. Without sponsors, much of the weekend would not be possible - a huge thank you goes to each and every one of them. Firstly, Bar One Racing who are a key supporter over the weekend and who sponsor one of our feature races today, The Bar One Racing Fortria Chase. It is great to have John Breslin’s Railway Bar backing the Lismullen Hurdle in what looks another high class renew. A big thank you goes to John Lynch for his sponsorship of the Kilberry Pub & Kitchen Maiden Hurdle, while long term sponsors, Hotel Park St Johnn In Tirol are back again and we are delighted to welcome them back for another year. Finally a special welcome to Liam Sharpe and all from Lisadell Equine Hospital, a local business, and a hugely valuable resource for the equine industry in Meath and beyond. Today, with the help of our sponsors, we have increased our prizemoney for the day and put on what we think a competitive card that gives opportunities to as many owners, trainers, jockeys etc. as possible on an important weekend. We always appreciate the support of all those who choose to race with us and we hope you all enjoy your day here. To all owners with runners here today, you will notice our information guide located further on in the racecard that outlines all the information on your ownership experience here at Navan Racecourse. As well as a top day of racing, we have lots of entertainment throughout the day. Kicking off with the Bar One Racing Raceday Preview at 11am in the Bulmers Marquee where there will also be live music throughout the day and after racing with Body Funk Music. HORSE WELFARE - A PRIORITY At every race meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the wellbeing of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who, follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and race goers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary. A second veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horses requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority.
