Welcome to Day 1 of Dublin Racing Festival 2022. There is a top quality day of racing today with four Grade 1 races, a leading Grade 2 bumper and two competitive handicaps. Todays feature race, the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup promises to be another thrilling contest and we are very grateful for the support of Paddy Power
I am delighted to welcome you back to Leopardstown today for Derby Trials Day, one of the best days racing during the Leopardstown flat season.
for this and the two supporting handicap races.
We also welcome the return of full crowds to Leopardstown for the first time since Dublin Racing Festival 2020. We are delighted to have racing fans back to experience National Hunt racing at Leopardstown and look forward to seeing everyone, without you, there has been a huge void at racing for the past two years.
The Derby Trial has long been associated with Champion racehorses. Former winners include Sadlers Wells, St Jovite, Sindaar, Galileo, High Chapparal, Alamshar, Dylan Thomas, and Yeats.
As with our spectators, our sponsors are integral to our racedays and we are very thankful for the support of Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors, Racing TV, and Goffs today, many of whom have supported Dublin Racing Festival since its inception. The continued support of all of todays sponsors have ensured we can continue to deliver competitive racing on what has become a marquee festival in the National Hunt calendar in only it’s fifth year as a festival.
We are also delighted to welcome back John R Fitzpatrick Agricultural Contractors who together with the Fitzpatrick family have generously supported two races on today’s card. The Captain Dara Fitzpatrick Memorial Maiden, run in memory of Dara Fitzpatrick who was from the local Kilternan Parish and grew up in the community. Dara was one of the Irish Coast Guards most senior helicopter search and rescue pilots and will be remembered today along with the Crew of Helicopter Rescue R116, who sadly lost their lives during the Irish Coast Rescue crash in March 2017.
We want to emphasise to all those attending, that although government restrictions relating to Covid-19 have been eased, we continue to encourage diligence and ask everyone to be mindful of others and continue best practice in relation to hand sanitising and masked wearing in crowded areas.
It’s a pleasure to be supporting Festina Lente. Festina Lente is Ireland’s top equine and horticultural learning charity, known across the racing industry for its outstanding work in the field of equine assisted learning for those with special needs through a wide range of equine assisted learning programmes. Make sure to visit them in our activity zone located beside the playground.
HRI Racecourses recently unveiled a primary partnership with Bulmers Ireland where they will become the Official Entertainment Partner of HRI Racecourses with the aim of enhancing all racegoers experience across our four racecourses at Leopardstown, Fairyhouse, Navan and Tipperary, the first manifestation of this is at Dublin Racing Festival and we are looking forward to seeing Mundy and his band playing live on stage in the Bulmers Secret Orchard Marquee after racing today.
The Clayton Hotel Leopardstown are a valued sponsor of the Clayton Hotel Leopardstown Maiden today and also the very popular Hobby Horse Cup Race for the kids. The Clayton Hotel are located just around the corner from the racecourse and we are exceptionally grateful for their ongoing support.

The Predictor is a ‘Computer Generated’ predicted outcome of the race in visual form, generated by an algorithm of key factors (including eg current form, ratings and going.)
This looks all about the Moyglare third ETERNAL SILENCE, with whom Jessica Harrington is targeting the Irish 1,000 Guineas. She clearly needs to be winning this if she’s to head there. The remainder should be playing for the places and Sharlouk could be the best of them after a very pleasing return.[Alistair Jones] Source: Racing Post

At every race meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the wellbeing of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who, follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and race goers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary.
A second veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horses requiring such attention post race.
The horses’ welfare is always our priority.

A Group 1-winning son of the 2001 winner Galileo, PROUD AND REGAL meets lower-rated rivals on level terms and should be hard to beat. The main danger may be twice-raced maiden Up And Under, a promising second over C&D in the Ballsax Stakes. Aidan O’Brien, who has won the last four editions and 15 in all since 1998, could go close with Londoner whose Longchamp fourth represented a satisfactory seasonal debut.

An interesting maiden but a dangerous betting heat with so many unknown quantities. It may be worth taking a chance with LAUGHIFUWANT who has dropped a long way in the ratings since enjoying a productive 2020 campaign. He faces obvious dangers in Timourid and Giladah, closely matched on recent Cork running. Purple Gown and Wild Dollar also hold definite claims. [Alan Sweetman]

The Predictor is a ‘Computer Generated’ predicted outcome of the race in visual form, generated by an algorithm of key factors (including eg current form, ratings and going.)
Rauzan, 7 Autocrat, 15-2 Sixpack, 8
This looks very open. LASTING PEACE has taken a step forward in each of his maidens and this longer trip heightens interest on his handicap debut. Dubawi Spectre has solid form claims and could improve for a visor, while Rauzan’s excusable heavy defeat last time didn’t do his handicap mark any harm.
