The Seamus Meade Hurdle of €17,000 takes place at 2:45 p.m. today. Seamus is an avid race goer and a Leopardstown member for 60 years. Having a race named after him at Leopardstown Racecourse that has played such a huge part in his life is a great honour for him. He treasures memories of his 80 plus years going to Leopardstown and all the great friends he has made down through the years.

FITTINGLY, for a man so smitten by the thunder of equine hooves and for whom the racetrack was a second home, Anton O’Toole was himself a thoroughbred: An immaculately- bred athlete born to gallop and bound with an exuberant, uncontainable joy. Croke Park was his Cheltenham, the magical coliseum where four times - 1974, ‘76, ‘77 and ‘83 - this Dublin hero of Hill 16 would enter the All-Ireland winner’s enclosure. Even the three-time Allstar’s nickname, The Blue Panther, conjured images of a powerful steed darting like the wind to seize glory at Leopardstown or Fairyhouse or The Curragh. He was a part-owner, a punter who relished a daily Placepot, a constant Leopardstown, a regular pilgrim to Cheltenham, York and Goodwood. And most of all, a gentleman whose achievements were trumped only by his modesty. In the honour of a legend of Irish life and a lover of Irish racing, his friends commissioned a seat - partially in Dublin blue - in the Leopardstown Stand. Written by Roy Curtis

Fillies Bonus Scheme (in association with The Irish Field)) Winner will receive €6,600 (Penalty Value: €6,490), Second will receive €2,200, Third will receive €1,100, Fourth will receive €550, Fifth will receive €330, Sixth will receive €220. An extended handicap hurdle for four years old and upwards mares only (116 = 11st 10lbs). Top weight in the original handicap and after the time of declaration shall not be less than 11st 10lbs and the minimum weight shall not be less than 9st 12lbs. About 2 miles 4 furlongs. €88 to enter, €22 extra if declared to run. Penalties - Winner of a hurdle race after calculation of the handicap shall carry 5lb extra for each hurdle race won. Horses which receive a published weight of 9st 11lbs or less will be entitled to a 50% reduction in entry fee. Should they be declared to run they will then become liable for the full amount of the cost to run. (The winning owner in this race will receive a €5,000 bonus should the winning filly be eligible for the Weatherbys Ireland/I.T.B.A. N.H.
