would like to welcome you all to the second day of Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown. Due to these unprecedented times, we are very sorry we cannot welcome our many supporters in person to Leopardstown Racecourse. However, there are many ways you can #BeInvolved at Dublin Racing Festival from the comfort of your own home, so please do look at our website and social channels for more detail. For over 130 years, Leopardstown has been an essential part of the Dublin community. The racing at Dublin Racing Festival is some of the best you will see, and last year we witnessed the epitome of Irish horse racing competition at the highest level, when the remarkable Delta Work won the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup for trainer Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy. The Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup feature race has a glorious past winners list of the greats, including Jodami, Imperial Call, Florida Pearl, Beef or Salmon, Neptune Collonges and Sir Des Champs. It was incredible to see the famous thirteen-year-old, Faugheen win the Flogas Novice Steeplechase. It was a thrilling performance that created atmospheric scenes as the crowds gathered to witness the victory, and given where we are now it seems all the more special as a memory. This year will be no different with four Grade 1 races and four highly competitive supporting races today. Our Favourite Dublin Racing Festival act from over the years is Aslan who lightened up the Marquee at the Festival in 2020. Aslan who took their name from the heroic lion in C.S. Lewis’s series of books chronicling the fictional land of Narnia (Aslan is the Turkish for ‘Lion’), emerged from the working class areas of Finglas and Ballymun in Dublin’s Northside, in the mid 1980s. They released a demo single, ‘This Is’, in the Spring of 1986, which was a huge hit and became the longest ever play-listed single on Ireland’s pop radio station, RTÉ 2fm. Through their iconic song “Crazy World”, Aslan have established themselves as Irish music royalty and through renowned live shows.

Paddy Mullins Celebrating one of Ireland’s most successful National Hunt trainers Today’s race is the fourth running of the Irish EBF Paddy Mullins Mares Handicap Hurdle and it celebrates one of Ireland’s most successful National Hunt trainers who had a special ability with mares and will be forever remembered as the man behind the great Dawn Run, the only horse in history to win the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle and Cheltenham Gold Cup. This wonderful 20race winning mare also won the French, Irish and English Champion Hurdle, the only horse to do so to date. Other great mares he trained include the 25-time winner Grabel, whose most notable victory was in the 1990 Duelling Grounds Hurdle in Kentucky. On the Flat, Paddy’s big race wins include the 1973 English Champion Stakes with Hurry Harriet and the 2003 Irish Oaks courtesy of Vintage Tipple. Paddy also won the Irish Grand National four times as well as winning three Galway Plates and four Galway Hurdles. Paddy passed away at the age of 91 in 2010 but his legacy will never be forgotten. RUNNERS & RIDERS PREVIEW THE CHANELLE PHARMA NOVICE HURDLE (GRADE 1) APPRECIATE IT Point winner for Pat Doyle and was impressive in bumpers here last season before second to stablemate Ferny Hollow at Cheltenham. Form of Cork maiden win has been well advertised by Master McShee and much too good for Irascible and Keskonrisk in course and distance Grade 1 six weeks ago. No surprise to see him remain at 2m even though he won a 2m4f bumper. BALLYADAM Point winner for Colin McKeever who didn’t have too much to beat in a Downpatrick bumper last March. Won well on hurdling debut before making the most of a relatively soft Grade 1 opportunity when beating Cask Mate in the Royal Bond. Made a couple of mistakes and ran as if he would prefer further when soundly beaten in fourth behind Appreciate It here at Christmas. BLUE LORD Winner of a 2m Flat race in the French provinces in September 2019 on his third start. Quite easy-toback as second-favourite on Irish debut in a 2m maiden hurdle at Punchestown in November but proved more than equal to the task against useful bumper performer Julies Stowaway. Did not settle well when no match for Bob Olinger in 2m4f Grade 1 event at Naas.

RUNNERS & RIDERS PREVIEW THE CHANELLE PHARMA NOVICE HURDLE (GRADE 1) CASK MATE Returned from almost three years on the sidelines (tendon issues) to win a Limerick maiden hurdle in good style. Backed up that run by winning a rated novice hurdle at Punchestown and had a creditable display when splitting Ballyadam and Ngolo in the Royal Bond. FRENCH LIGHT Smart hurdler in the USA, mostly on fast ground, however. He handled plenty of cut when a point-to-point  winner for Ellen Doyle before being exported, and coped well enough with heavy going when second in a 2m3f Clonmel novice event last month. HES A HARDY BLOKE Point winner for Mick Goff who won a Clonmel bumper in the autumn and has progressed to win his two most recent races over hurdles following a remote third to Ballyadam at Down Royal. IRASCIBLE Unplaced on sole point start for Brian Hamilton but clearly got a good basic education. Jumped well when beating stablemate Decimation on hurdling debut at Clonmel and coped really well with stiff challenge when best of the remainder behind Appreciate It here six weeks ago.

Raced too keenly and looked in need of further when third to Ballyadam in the Royal Bond and tame effort when fading to finish in rear behind Appreciate It last time. Beaten favourite in a bumper before beating Great Bear easily in a maiden hurdle at Navan. Made a few mistakes when failing to run to expectations in a Grade 2 event at Punchestown three weeks ago. MR COLDSTONE Unplaced in three starts at two and off the course for almost two and half years before winning a Tramore maiden hurdle last month. HORSE WELFARE – A PRIORITY At every race meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the wellbeing of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who, follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and race goers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary. A second veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horses requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority. RUNNERS & RIDERS PREVIEW THE FLOGAS NOVICE STEEPLECHASE (GRADE 1) ANDY DUFRESNE Smart novice hurdler last season, reaching a mark of 145 in that sphere. Has looked even better since being sent chasing and can’t be faulted after impressive wins at Wexford and in a Grade 3 at Navan in December. Seems to have been crying out for a step up in trip and it will be interesting to see where he fits in. ASSEMBLE Bumper and maiden hurdle winner last year was also third in a Thurles Grade 3 novice hurdle. Got off the mark in good style at Fairyhouse before chasing home Envoi Allen in the Drinmore, briefly looking a threat two out before ultimately being well-held. Was beaten when falling at the last in the Grade 1 at Limerick and needs to bounce back. ASTERION FORLONGE Grade 1 Novice Hurdle winner over 2m last season who started 9-4 favourite for the Supreme Novices’ but was beaten 14l into fourth. Nice start to his chasing career at Punchestown but things have gone pear-shaped since with falls in the Grade 1 at Limerick over Christmas and at Punchestown three weeks ago, where he got no further than the first. Prefers going right-handed and tongue-tie fitted for retrieval mission. CONFLATED Off the mark at the third attempt over fences when running out an impressive winner over 2m4f at Navan. No match for Monkfish and Latest Exhibition, however, when a well-beaten third in the Grade 1 Neville Hotels Novice Chase over Christmas. FILS D’OUDAIRIES Too keen when taking a tired fall on his stable/chasing debut at Punchestown in November. Has gone from strength to strength since, winning over 2m4f at Navan before chasing home Envoi Allen in a Punchestown

RUNNERS & RIDERS PREVIEW THE FLOGAS NOVICE STEEPLECHASE (GRADE 1) Grade 3 over the same trip latest. The youngest horse in the field and open to plenty of progress so could be a dark horse. JANIDIL Progressed nicely through the handicap hurdle ranks last year over 2m before probably not getting home over 3m in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham. Looked a potentially exciting novice chaser when getting off the mark over 2m3f at Naas but he was laboured in third in the Grade 1 at Limerick in December. Mark Walsh opts for Andy Dufresne. LATEST EXHIBITION Top-class staying novice hurdler last season, landing the 2m6f Grade 1 at this meeting and only just denied by Monkfish in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham. Has come forward for each start over fences and went down fighting behind Monkfish in the three-mile Grade 1 here over Christmas. Drying ground would give him a fighting chance of revenge and a tongue-tie now tried. MACGILONEY Experienced chaser but nothing more than a handicapper and mark of 127 leaves him with plenty to find, so a rank outsider. MONKFISH Progressive novice hurdler last season, culminating in a neck defeat of Latest Exhibition in the Albert Bartlett, showing a good attitude and abundant stamina in the process. Has been a joy to watch over fences thus far. He jumped like an old pro when getting off the mark at Fairyhouse and, while he was made battle by Latest Exhibition in the Grade 1 Neville Hotels Novice Chase over 3m here in December, he dug deep and showed his class. Interesting that Gordon Elliott sidestepped the Thyestes with FARCLAS and that could prove a shrewd move. The former Triumph Hurdle winner showed up well when third in the Paddy Power over Christmas and could have a big pot like this in him.
