Horse Care on Raceday The wellbeing of horses is integral to the thoroughbred racehorse industry. Racecourses play their part through adherence to a clear set of industry standards. Prior to each race meeting an independent track inspection is carried out by an IHRB accredited “Clerk of the Course”. This individual will check all equine facilities, including ground conditions, railing, stables and veterinary care facilities. All racecourses must meet the required standards to be granted a licence to race. At every race meeting a team of equine veterinary surgeons supervise the wellbeing of horses. All racecourse vets must be members of the Association of Irish Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons (AIRVS) and will have received specialist training in the field of racecourse work. The IHRB Veterinary Officer at each meeting has responsibilities including: • Horse Identification - achieved through checking their microchip numbers against those recorded in their passports. • Drug Testing - a process is vital to ensure the integrity of the sport. • General oversight of horse care and wellbeing. • Provision of advice to the Stewards, on veterinary matters. A racecourse vet will check horses at the start for each race. If they deem any horse unfit to race at this point, they have the authority to withdraw the horse. During the race the vets follow on, within the convoy of vehicles seen on the service road. Other vehicles in this convoy include doctors, paramedics and ground-staff. This whole team will swing into action if any incident occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse or jockey receiving treatment. This allows the veterinary or medical teams some privacy to fully assess the casualty. Racegoers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured participant. The Blue Cross Horse Ambulance are also present every meeting, the service is operated by skilled personnel using specially equipped horse ambulances. They work to support the Veterinary Team. They respond swiftly to any incidents involving injured horses and transport them off the racetrack for specialist veterinary care if required. The presentation of the horses on race day reflects the preparation at home. The results of good feeding, good housing, good health, and good wellbeing are clear to see when a horse appears at the races bright-eyed with a gleaming coat and a spring in their step. Raceday is great opportunity for the public to observe the high standards of care given to these horses. All horses are accompanied on raceday by their own dedicated stable staff. These skilled people will have spent many months and sometimes years preparing their horses for the raceday. They lavish care and attention, day in, day out, in all weathers, and the industry is extremely proud of these excellent individuals. They help maintain Ireland’s position as an international leader in the thoroughbred breeding, training, and racing industry, ensuring best-in-class integrity and equine welfare standards.

RACE VERDICT
Quite a competitive handicap in which COOLREE gets the vote, now dropped in trip after a good Listowel run in similar conditions. Nituna also showed she handles this ground when posting a career-best at the Curragh recently and she rates a big threat. Others with chances are Mogwli and Yuzu.

RACE VERDICT
Absent since chasing home stablemate Paddington in the Irish 2,000 Guineas in May, the market may prove the best guide to the chances of CAIRO but, a winner here this time last year, he could take the beating if handling this ground. Honey Girl was left with too much to do at Naas last weekend but rates a big danger on her best form, while Snapraeterea and Bells On Her Toes hold strong place claims on recent form. [Alan

RACE VERDICT
Value may be had here in the bottom-weighted SAN AER, an eyecatching third at Naas last weekend on this sort of ground and now racing off a 10lb lower mark than when fourth in the Irish Lincoln back in March. Both Catena Zapata and Excuzio Joe demand respect on the back of very promising recent comeback runs, while top-weight Timeless Soul is also respected. [Alan Hewison] Source: Racing Post

RACE VERDICT
This is very open. It might pay to take a chance on handicap debutante TEOREMA, who ran well in the 1m2f Curragh maiden won by Nostringsattached before being too keen for her own good over further next time. Spy has a bit to prove on ground this testing but has races in him off his current mark, while Time To Boogie and Turbulence are others to consider.[Alistair Jones] Source: Racing Post

The Gables Foxrock are proud Sponsors of The Foxrock Cup Maiden
The History of the Foxrock Cup The Foxrock Cup was presented to Leopardstown Racecourse in 1950 by Mr. Reggie O’Hara, a life-long follower of horse racing. The race was run each year until 1988 when it was lapsed. in 2022 the race was reinstated with thanks to the new sponsor, The Gables and support from Foxrock Area Community Enterprise. The Gables Foxrock is a member of the Nolaclan Family which has a number of hospitality venues all over Ireland.

During it’s history, the Foxrock Cup has been won by many notable horses, including Anaglog’s Daughter in 1981. However, the most famous, or notorious, winner ever was in 1965, where Foinavon won the Foxrock Cup for Anne, Dutchess of Westminster.
CY
CMY
Afficionados of horse racing will know the story of Foinavon was probably the most unexpected winner of the Aintree Grand National ever in 1967. A riderless horse ran across almost the entire field at fence 23, causing mayhem, with most of the main contenders falling, refusing or brought down. Foinavon was sufficiently behind the field when he went on to sail through the aftermath and went on to win at odds of 100/1. Fence 23 at Aintree has since been named “Foinavon” Fence. We hope you enjoy your afternoon’s racing at Leopardstown and particularty the Foxrock Cup.

RACE VERDICT
Ballsbridge has clear claims on last week’s Naas run but that form brings QUARE HAWK firmly into the equation, as he was conceding experience eight days ago and he also came from a long way off the pace to be hot on the heels of the Ballydoyle colt. Finsceal Go Deo and Quantum Light have now had plenty of chances, but Unassuming should improve and Taymura is a respected newcomer.

RACE VERDICT
A deep handicap that will take some winning. Aidan O’Brien’s 3yos command respect on their handicap debuts, with Alexandrouplis highly tried all season and Gulf Of Mexico being persevered with after a year off. However, the suggestion is CHALLY CHUTE, who was coming along very nicely until struggling in the Irish Cesarewitch at the Curragh. That was by no means a bad run after travelling well for a long way and dropping back to a stiff 1m4f looks a better fit for now. Whileuweresleeping is another intriguing contender given the form she had in France.
