BULMERS LIVE AT LEOPARDSTOWN featuring Mark McCabe WITH THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS

Welcome to Day 1 of Dublin Racing Festival 2022. There is a top quality day of racing today with four Grade 1 races, a leading Grade 2 bumper and two competitive handicaps. Todays feature race, the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup promises to be another thrilling contest and we are very grateful for the support of Paddy Power

Welcome to Leopardstown Racecourse for our third Bulmers Live @ Leopardstown event. Tonight’s entertainment is provided by DJ Mark McCabe, who will be sure to have you all up on the dancefloor.

for this and the two supporting handicap races.

We also welcome the return of full crowds to Leopardstown for the first time since Dublin Racing Festival 2020. We are delighted to have racing fans back to experience National Hunt racing at Leopardstown and look forward to seeing everyone, without you, there has been a huge void at racing for the past two years.

We have a 8-race card today to enjoy. We as always are very thankful to our race sponsors.

As with our spectators, our sponsors are integral to our racedays and we are very thankful for the support of Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors, Racing TV, and Goffs today, many of whom have supported Dublin Racing Festival since its inception. The continued support of all of todays sponsors have ensured we can continue to deliver competitive racing on what has become a marquee festival in the National Hunt calendar in only it’s fifth year as a festival.

We are delighted to welcome Richmond Homes back to Leopardstown as sponsors of the 6.50pm race today. Richmond Homes are led by a highly experienced team of planning, construction, development and real estate professionals who have delivered in excess of 8,000 apartments and houses over the course of their careers in both the UK and Ireland. Richmond Homes are a Dublin based developer that embraces the new. New design, new technologies and new standards.

We want to emphasise to all those attending, that although government restrictions relating to Covid-19 have been eased, we continue to encourage diligence and ask everyone to be mindful of others and continue best practice in relation to hand sanitising and masked wearing in crowded areas.

The Irish EBF are fantastic supporters to our industry investing €2.2 million annually making the Irish EBF the largest sponsor of racing in Ireland and it’s great to be able to have them involved on our opening Bulmers Live, music evening.

HRI Racecourses recently unveiled a primary partnership with Bulmers Ireland where they will become the Official Entertainment Partner of HRI Racecourses with the aim of enhancing all racegoers experience across our four racecourses at Leopardstown, Fairyhouse, Navan and Tipperary, the first manifestation of this is at Dublin Racing Festival and we are looking forward to seeing Mundy and his band playing live on stage in the Bulmers Secret Orchard Marquee after racing today.

We are delighted to welcome a party from Dualway Coaches here tonight. Dualway Coaches have a bus for every occasion, from 19 -53 seaters with a 24hr back up service. Dualway Coaches also offer a range of Vintage Buses ideal for special occasions. This is Dualway Coaches first race sponsorship at Leopardstown and we hope that they have an enjoyable evening.

Should you require any assistance throughout the day, or notice anything that is not to your satisfaction, please don’t hesitate to bring it to the attention of myself or a member of the Leopardstown Staff. We hope you have a enjoyable day at Leopardstown Racecourse with us today.

Tim Husbands M.B.E.

Leopardstown Racecourse CEO

James and Catherine Marmion of Awards & Gifts have kindly sponsored the third race on this evening card – a competitive Handicap. Leopardstown as part of the wider Horse Racing Ireland family has a commitment to inclusivity and equality, and we aim to show our colleagues and friends and the wider horse racing industry who are members of the LGBTQ+ community that we are proud to have them as members of our team, our industry and our sport.

Should you require any assistance big or small throughout your day, please don’t hesitate to ask a member of our raceday staff and we would be happy to help. We hope you have an enjoyable evening and we look forward to seeing you here over the course of the summer.

RACE VERDICT

The winners in this line-up, Mary The Priest and Port Louis are respected and both race up with the pace. However, the first-named is drawn high and the form of the latter’s maiden win hasn’t really worked out. A chance is taken on ZONA VERDE, who shapes as if this trip will suit, having run well in sprints on two of her three starts. Sea Singer, Hispanolita and Dramatic Entrance are of interest. WHAT IS PRIDE?

Pride is the Promotion of self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (lgbtq+) PeoPle as a social grouP.

June is Pride month; it is a month dedicated to celebrating the lgbtq+ communities all around the world. June is the month chosen to celebrate Pride as it was the month of the stonewall riots, the Protests that changed gay rights for a lot of PeoPle worldwide. the stonewall uPrising was the tiPPing Point for gay liberation movement in the united states. it is about PeoPle coming together in love and friendshiP and being Proud of who you are no matter who you love. it is about teaching tolerance, education in Pride history and continuing to move forward in equality.

5 FACTS ABOUT LGBTQ+

1. in 2013, Jack duern was the first Jockey to be oPenly gay in uk and ireland racing.

2. 1 in 25 PeoPle describe themselves as gay, lesbian or bisexual. however, the Percentage of lgbtq+ community in racing is negligible. this indicates that many PeoPle in the industry aren’t oPen about their sexuality.

3. 88% of the racing survey and 77% of the Jockey survey resPonded on the Positive side of neutral when asked how their oPinion would be imPacted by having a gay, lesbian or bisexual colleague.

4. in an english racing survey, the resPonses showed significant Percentages of individuals identifying as non-heterosexual across both survey samPle PoPulations – likely to be in line with national PoPulation estimates if extraPolated. interestingly, 0.33% of the racing survey resPondents did not wish to disclose their sexuality at all, however this figure rose to 5.37% amongst the Jockey PoPulation samPled.

5. drag star cherry valentine Joined the Judging Panel for the coveted style awards at the caZoo ladies day 2022.

RACE VERDICT

Though it was only a claimer that he won last time, ZERO FIGHTER looks an improving 3yo and can follow up with Colin Keane aboard. Benavente ran better than it appeared over C&D last time and can be involved. Everything fell right for Cnodian last time but she is at least in form so has to be respected. If the cheekpieces work on One Boss she will be a player. [Tyrone Molloy] Source: Racing Post

RACE VERDICT

Plenty here with genuine chances. Mere Accountant is still unexposed but her form ties in well. Dawn Session and Hero Blues both come here fresh from maiden wins and top-weight National Emblem could well be better than his rating. However, no horse is on more of an upward curve than SEMBLANCE OF ORDER after a narrow failure in a good Curragh handicap last time. [Justin O’Hanlon]

Horse Care on Raceday

The wellbeing of horses is integral to the thoroughbred racehorse industry. Racecourses play their part through adherence to a clear set of industry standards. Prior to each race meeting an independent track inspection is carried out by an IHRB accredited “Clerk of the Course”. This individual will check all equine facilities, including ground conditions, railing, stables and veterinary care facilities. All racecourses must meet the required standards to be granted a licence to race.

At every race meeting a team of equine veterinary surgeons supervise the wellbeing of horses. All racecourse vets must be members of the Association of Irish Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons (AIRVS) and will have received specialist training in the field of racecourse work.

The IHRB Veterinary Officer at each meeting has responsibilities including:

• Horse Identification - achieved through checking their microchip numbers against those recorded in their passports.

• Drug Testing - a process is vital to ensure the integrity of the sport.

• General oversight of horse care and wellbeing.

• Provision of advice to the Stewards, on veterinary matters. A racecourse vet will check horses at the start for each race. If they deem any horse unfit to race at this point, they have the authority to withdraw the horse. During the race the vets follow on, within the convoy of vehicles seen on the service road. Other vehicles in this convoy include doctors, paramedics and ground-staff. This whole team will swing into action if any incident occurs. It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse or jockey receiving treatment. This allows the veterinary or medical teams some privacy to fully assess the casualty. Racegoers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured participant.

The Blue Cross Horse Ambulance are also present every meeting, the service is operated by skilled personnel using specially equipped horse ambulances. They work to support the Veterinary Team. They respond swiftly to any incidents involving injured horses and transport them off the racetrack for specialist veterinary care if required.

The presentation of the horses on race day reflects the preparation at home. The results of good feeding, good housing, good health, and good wellbeing are clear to see when a horse appears at the races bright-eyed with a gleaming coat and a spring in their step. Raceday is great opportunity for the public to observe the high standards of care given to these horses.

All horses are accompanied on raceday by their own dedicated stable staff. These skilled people will have spent many months and sometimes years preparing their horses for the raceday. They lavish care and attention, day in, day out, in all weathers, and the industry is extremely proud of these excellent individuals. They help maintain Ireland’s position as an international leader in the thoroughbred breeding, training, and racing industry, ensuring best-in-class integrity and equine welfare standards.

RACE VERDICT

Open race and many of them have bits and pieces of chances. Tom McCourt’s pair Shining Aitch and Rampage both have clear chances, the consistent Skontonovski should be thereabouts, while there is plenty to like about Everylittlestep. The one to beat though could be ATBAY(nap) after being dropped a couple for good runs at Roscommon and Listowel and with a good draw. [Justin O’Hanlon] Source: Racing Post

RACE VERDICT

Whatawit is a dual UK bumper winner and has to be respected being sent over for this by his top trainer. However, NIKINI has achieved more in NH terms and was a fine fourth in a Sligo maiden last time after being slowly away, so can score. Pahlavi, Aussie Warrior, Enniskerry and Mon Coeur are all capable of being involved. [Tyrone Molloy] Source: Racing Post
