Govt. congratulates BK & Toolsie Persaud for CJIA expansion stone contracts WEEK

China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) recently signed two multimilliondollar contracts with local stone suppliers – BK Quarries and Toolsie Persaud Quarries – to provide an initial amount of some 95,000 tons of aggregate (stone).

According to Patterson, BK will supply approximately 50,000 tons at a contract price of US$1.8M while Toolsie Persaud Quarries will supply 45,000 tons of stone with a contract price of US$1.7M. “Guyana 2030” is a holistic plan of action for Guyana over the next decade or two. The proposal examined opportunities for Guyana in terms of its geographic location, natural resources and market access and outlined plans for the country to serve as a transshipment port for Brazil and Venezuela and a link to CARICOM and North American markets. Challenges, such as climate change and severe flooding, were also reviewed. The 2017 National Youth Week Theme is “Inspiring our Youths, Celebrating their Achievements”. The Government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Education’s Youth Department has officially relaunched National Youth Week. The official week started on Sunday, May 21 with a March from outside the Parliament Buildings to Main Street outside of the Department of Culture, Youth and Sports. Hundreds of youth from various youth organizations and institutions braved the rains to march and eventually gathered for a concert. The week of activities was officially declared open by Permanent Secretary - Melissa Tucker. She outlined the many activities planned for the Youth Week. Chief among those mentioned is the Government’s YIPoG programme that was slated for launch on May 22 at the Umana Yana. See pictures on page 11
