Harrogate welcomes back the cream of the gift industry today as Home & Gift Buyers’ Festival opens its doors. More than 12,000 visitors are expected to pour into the Harrogate Convention Centre and grounds of the historic Majestic Hotel for the buying event this year, which show director Cleere Scamell says is the “biggest yet”. More than 800 exhibitors will showcase their latest and greatest over the coming days, with more than a quarter of them new to the show. It’s this unrivalled depth of products to source and a uniquely social setting that makes Home & Gift an annual highlight for buyers and retailers – a week filled with exciting new products, networking, trend-spotting, “oh, and the Pimm’s”, adds one returning retailer. In fact, buyers find Home & Gift such an integral show to visit that 96 per cent of those asked in a Daily News survey said they would recommend it to colleagues and others in the trade. Refreshed this year are the Product Collections, guiding visitors to exceptional gift and homewares from eco-conscious gifting to Christmas favourites. And not forgetting the Great Northern Retail Forum, which promises to deliver yet more insight to help everyone at Home & Gift prosper and grow their business in the year ahead.

a hit post-General Election, with ongoing Brexit negotiations leaving many consumers unsure about the future. But one retailer said the gift industry was as “exciting, vibrant and fresh” as it has ever been, with many pointing to millennials looking for quirky and design-led gifts as a promising market for growth. Another store owner called the industry “original, great and British” in a nod to more consumers seeking out quality gifts designed and made on our fair isle, while “challenging but enjoyable” was the viewpoint of another retailer.
