Lely Center Holsworthy have been working with Lely on the supply and installation of automated milking systems and barn equipment since 2008.

Our services range from sales advice to individual barn design and layouts through to project management and installation. Additionally, our Lely trained milking engineers undertake scheduled servicing and provide 24/7 backup throughout Devon & Cornwall. We also have dedicated Feed and Manure engineers installing and servicing the full portfolio of Lely barn products.

Our Farm Management Support team monitor the robot operation and work with our customers, their vets and nutritionists to ensure they get the best out of the system.

Sales Consultant Our Sales Consultant will work with you to understand your needs and how Lely automation could fit into your system to help you fulfil your requirements

Project Co-ordination Darren Coventry will adapt your ideas, your needs and requirements from concept to reality. He will work closely with your planners and architects together with your chosen trades – builders, electricians, plumbers, and internet providers and will support you until the robots are up and running.

Farm Management Support Merryn Cowls will support you during the transition to automated milking and feeding and will continuously review and optimise your set-up to ensure your present and future aims are met with on-going aftercare support.

Technical Support Our Service Manager Dan Gifford leads a team of certified engineers available 24/7 for your peace of mind. The service team are located throughout the Devon & Cornwall region which ensures a quick response time 365 days a year; and they all have the same goal – to maintain each robot to the highest standard, keep failures to a minimum and to keep customer satisfaction high.

Lely: The Personal Approach Automating your business is about much more than just installing a milking and feeding robot.

It involves decisions that have implications for the whole business. Where do you want to be in 10 years’ time and what choices can be made for us to achieve this goal together? The longer we work with our customers, the better the advice we can give, because we get to know each other.

Project Coordination Our Project Coordination team ensures a seamless transition from project sale to installation, followed by ongoing service and aftersales support. Acting as the central point of contact, the project coordinator works closely with clients, their contractors, and the broader Lely team to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and in line with client expectations.

Installing a robotic milking system requires meticulous planning. Proper barn and facility design is essential to ensure cows can move freely and easily access the milking robot.

We specialise in developing tailored project plans for each farm, whether newly constructed or existing, to optimise cow flow, animal welfare, and labour efficiency.

From AutoCAD design drawings and detailed builder plans to milk line layouts, air network designs, and specifications for electrical and water requirements, we handle every detail. We liaise with contractors, builders, electricians, and plumbers to ensure every project progresses smoothly - from initial design to the first milking and beyond.

Farm Management Support Farm Management Support (FMS) is a unique service to Lely that allows an advisor to work along side you to understand your business and objectives. Our focus is a combination of supporting you to get the most from your software and looking at the performance of the robots, as well as your cows. We work with your nutritionist and vet for a whole farm approach to achieving your goals.

Farm Management Support will support in the following ways: 1. Start Up Support: Moving you from conventional milking to automated milking 2. After care and annual Visits: Working with your farm team, feed advisor, vet and including a Lely Farm Scan document 3. Vector Support: Monitoring and adjusting your system 4. Discussion Groups + 3rd Party events: FMS will organise and run Lely farmer discussion groups looking at relevant topics to further spread knowledge and improve upon your system 5

What do our Customers say?

Dave Waterman: With eight Lely products on farm, (·2x A4 robot, 1x A5 robot, 1x Juno, 1x Discovery, 1x Collector, 2x Luna) automating the milking, scraping and feeding has provided huge labour savings and created more flexibility for him to individually manage cows.

“We have automated almost our entire dairy operation which has reduced labour significantly.

The information we are now able to access is crazy.

We can help individual cows before things become a problem, you can see that something is wrong and immediately treat them. In the parlour we didn’t have that level of information and an unwell cow would have carried on going downhill.”

Andrew & Bryan Olde: Installing a Vector automatic feeding system at their farm on the Hartland Peninsular has helped the brothers realise labour and fuel savings of almost £22,000 annually since swapping from their mixer wagon to the Vector. The beef finishers have also more than doubled throughput.

Previously, cattle were fed once a day which took 2.5 hours.

Now, it takes just 3.5 hours weekly to fill the feed kitchen, saving them 14.5 hours a week. Based on labour costing £14/hour, the Vector is realising savings of nearly £10,000 a year. On top of this, they are saving £12,000 annually in running costs.

“We used to spend £15,000 on diesel running the tractor and feeder wagon and the Vector is costing £3,000 in electricity.”

Jeff Harris whose dairy farm is near Crediton, Devon has seen a difference not just in the health of his cows since installing the Lely Discovery Collector, but also a noticeable reduction in manual labour hours and costs.

Significantly cleaner legs and feet throughout the herd has also helped reduce digital dermatitis incidents from 20% to approximately 5%.

“Labour saving has been the most noticeable benefit for me. In the height of winter when all the cows are housed inside I used to scrape out for 1.5 – 2 hours a day in the past, so we are now saving approximately 10 - 14 hours a week (or one whole day a week of time). Also, the Collector is cheaper to run than a 6

tractor.”

Paul Westaway: Looking after your robots and having a great team of engineers on hand to help is the secret to an incredible robot milestone.

Paul, who farms in North Devon installed two of his Lely Astronaut A3 robots in 2008 with a third robot, a second-hand A3 installed in 2022. He has now seen both of his original robots surpass the 10 million kg milk milestone.

“Really, it’s down to the hard work of the Lely Center engineers, they service the robots regularly and are brilliant. It does help that I’m around the yard during the day working so I can pick up any issues immediately and can respond but, all in all, we rarely get any problems” “The robots are reliable and have given me peace of mind, they work 24/7 and never let me down”.

Having a complete service agreement with Lely Center Holsworthy has been reassuring, no matter the time or how small the query, the team’s patience and expertise is never ending. Only the other night I had an alarm at 1.30am; by 2am an engineer was on site; a cable was replaced, and the robot was back in action. The engineer’s positive attitude, despite it being the middle of the night, was incredible. The team of engineers, at Lely Center Holsworthy, are brilliant.”

Gareth Tape: finds the Juno feed pusher an invaluable piece of kit which has noticeably increased feed intakes. Gareth credits the move to automated milking, feed pushing and floor cleaning with ridding them of daily monotonous routines and says he is closer to the cows than he has ever been, despite the fact cows are handled less.

In fact, Gareth says he wouldn’t be dairying today if they hadn’t automated many of the daily tasks.

“We installed a Juno feed pusher and that’s made the biggest improvement in lifting intakes and milk yields.

Before installing, we were coming down to the shed five to six times daily pushing silage up by hand. As well as increasing yields, the Juno has definitely given us a better work-life balance.
