Farm automation: Taking concept to reality

Farm automation goes beyond just installing milking, feeding, or manure robots. It involves key decisions that affect the entire business. Where do you see your farm in 10 years? What steps can we take together to achieve that vision?

Our Project Coordination team at Lely transforms concepts into reality, ensuring a smooth transition to farm automation. From barn design and planning to commissioning and startup, they collaborate with farmers, contractors, Farm Management Support, and Engineers. The team develops tailored project plans for each farm, efficiently integrating robots into both new and existing systems, while also planning for future growth. With a focus on cow flow, welfare, and labour efficiency, they manage every detail, from AutoCAD plans to utilities, ensuring a seamless process from design to first milking and beyond. The team is always available to support farmers

during start-up, addressing any questions that arise, providing training, and reviewing maintenance practices for machinery longevity. The support extends to discussing small, maintainable items that farmers can fix themselves, helping to ensure the systems remain in top condition.

From initial consultation to planning, installation, start-up and after our Lely Team are with you the whole way. We see installation as just the beginning of our partnership.

Meet the team

Lely Center Yeovil has two project coordinators Alistair and Joe. Alistair has over 25 years experience, beginning as an engineer for conventional milking equipment before transitioning to robotic milking more than 10 years ago.

Renowned for his excellent relationships with customers and contractors, he is wellversed in current CDM 2015

building regulations and holds both RIDBA and MEA qualifications. Joe brings hands-on experience from his background growing up on a dairy farm, working as a herdsman and later managing an established local agricultural merchant. With expertise in dairy systems and a focus on cow flow, he excels at tailoring solutions to meet farmers’ goals while ensuring cow welfare. Darren Coventry joined Lely Center Holsworthy in 2014 as a Service Technician across Devon and Cornwall. He spent eight years as an SL2 engineer while earning his MEA qualification and transitioned to Project Coordination in 2022. Darren’s technical expertise ensures efficient project execution while prioritizing customer needs, animal welfare, optimal cow flow, and labour efficiency.
