Visitor Assistant Volunteer Purpose

To provide a helpful and friendly service that will contribute to the smooth running of both houses. Providing a warm welcome for our visitors, you will answer any immediate questions, help them to orientate themselves and generally provide the information they need to ensure they have a comfortable, enjoyable and memorable visit. You will be able to perform any of the tasks described below and support all areas across both houses. This is a position which can offer variety and the opportunity to learn new skills. The role will involve (but not be limited to)

• Providing a warm, friendly welcome (and goodbye) to all visitors as the public face of Leighton House and Sambourne House

• Developing a good knowledge of both Leighton House and Sambourne House, their histories and stories, so that all visitors receive accurate and relevant information to enhance their visit

• Understanding and communicating key messages

• Deal with any queries that may arise from visitors and pass to colleagues if necessary

• Be aware of the needs and arrangements for all visitors

• Become familiar with and then always follow Leighton House and Sambourne House’s Health and Safety Policy, as well as all other relevant Policies.

• Engage with visitors regarding becoming a member of the Friends of Leighton House

• Giving any other appropriate assistance as may be reasonably requested

Availability

Any day of the week (we are closed to the public on Tuesdays but do sometimes need volunteers for other events) on a regular basis that suits you, for either a morning or afternoon shift 10am-2pm or 2-5.30pm with breaks.

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in helping out for a minimum of three months.

Place:

Leighton House, 12 Holland Park Road, London W14 8LZ and, Sambourne House, 18 Stafford Terrace, London W8 7BH.

Volunteer supervisor:

Volunteer Coordinator, Front of House Manager.

Supervision: Day to day supervision.

Compulsory Training:

• Induction to Leighton House and Sambourne House, to include health and safety policies and a tour of both houses

• DBS check via RBKC

Qualities/Skills required:

• Reliable and enthusiastic

• Good communication and interpersonal skills

• Organised

• Interest in art, history and culture

Above all, we are looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic about the role and able to work with our close-knit team of staff and volunteers.

Interviews:

We will invite you for an informal interview at the House. This will take around 15 minutes and will be with a member of staff.
