LINLEY SAMBOURNE'S DIARY 1882 Sunday January 1 Pleasant evening very. Monday January 2 Very bad cold came on. Rode in morning all round Holloway etc. Saw Sheehy. Back in afternoon. Dined Burnands in evening. Suspicious about Punch. Saw Holliday. Bad cold. Worked Sir J.Gilbert. Tuesday January 3 Worse cold. Stopped in all day. Plaster on chest. Worked on Sir J.Gilbert. Wednesday January 4 Birthday. Cab all way to Punch Dinner. No work. Thursday January 5 Bradbury's juvenile party. Rode to Needle. Pleasant evening. Conjuror etc etc. Bland. Friday January 6 Worked from Tassell. John Bull & France. Saturday January 7 Took Marion to lunch at Rules. Went to Drury Lane pantomime. Home early. Stayed in. Sunday January 8 Rode with Conny to Wimbledon. Punch slipped down on Common. Monday January 9 Fine day. Jane fibs. Notice to leave. Ride in morning. Commenced Water Babies in earnest. Tuesday January 10 Finished cut Water Babies. Wednesday January 11 Punch dinner. Home early to Gardens to fetch M. Saw her & went back for game of Billiards with Edgar. Thursday January 12 Worked on Water Babies. Friday January 13 Finished Water cut. Dined with Black & Payn at Reform Club. Saturday January 14 4 weeks Punch due. Rode to Ludgate Hill to see Clock. Put Punch up & lunch at Club. Saw Macmillan & sons. Home afternoon. Hair cut. Miss Wells & Bee Barrs. Game of Billiards with Edgar after.
