Editor’s Welcome Dear Readers

WELCOME

Dates for your

Diary

Welcome to this, our 38th Edition of Leicester Square. This being our Tercentenary year, means that we have many stories to tell you, as each and every lodge in the Province has engaged in either local or provincial events to mark our anniversary.

2017

Also a big thank you to those lodges and individuals who have submitted their own stories for inclusion in the magazine, please keep them coming.

7th - Cheque Presentation Morning

2017 to the 31st January 2018.

The usually quite summer period has been nothing but quiet, with events such as the summer Grand Ball, Sonic Fest, and the 300 mile bike ride, we have had a hard time picking the best stories to put into the magazine. New events that are up and coming as we go to press include the opening of the Bradgate Park Memorial Wood by the Pro Grand Master M.W. Bro. Peter Lowndes on Thursday 5th October, and also A Journey through the Past, Present & Future of Leicestershire and Rutland Freemasons at Newarke House Museum, Leicester from 6th October

As we are now embarking on the new Masonic season in the Province, if you have any stories, or suggestions of how we can improve the magazine please get in touch, all ideas and feedback are most welcome. Kind regards

The Grand Summer Ball, celebrating

300 years of Freemasonry

The Grand Summer Ball was held on the exact date 300 years ago in 1717 when four masonic lodges gathered together at the Goose & Gridiron alehouse in London and formed the first Grand Lodge in the world which continues to govern Freemasonry in England and Wales today. Athena, which is a family-run business based in the former Grade II listed Odeon Cinema in the centre of Leicester, was the ideal glamorous setting for the guests to enjoy the Art Deco surroundings during a drinks reception. Guests were then welcomed by the Provincial Grand Master, R.W. Bro. David Hagger who wished everyone a wonderful evening celebrating the 300th birthday. The guests were treated to an excellent three course dinner in the main auditorium with plentiful wine to accompany the Scottish salmon and prawn tian, Leicestershire farmhouse chicken with parsley mash which was followed by a salted caramel profiterole stack and coffee. After the dinner, the Provincial Grand Master took to the stage to draw the winners of the Tercentenary Prize Draw. Prizes included villa accommodation in Antigua, Florida and Devon, a hot air balloon ride and light aircraft flights all very generously donated by the Brethren. Two Croupiers manned the Black Jack and Roulette tables at the rear of the hall which kept many of the guests entertained trying to accumulate as many chips as they could to be in with a chance of winning a bottle of bubbly. The guests filled the dance floor for well over an hour and a half when they were taken back to the 1960’s by the acoustically accurate Beatles tribute band, The Upbeat Beatles. They played many of their hits ranging from the very early ‘Cavern’ days to their later songs including several from Sgt. Peppers which is celebrating its 50th anniversary

www.pglleics.org.uk

in 2017. A wonderful encore saw them play ‘Hey Jude’ to rapturous applause and the obligatory singalong and hand waving by the crowd. The resident DJ continued to fill the dance floor for the rest of the evening playing hits from the past 50 years until the party sadly ended at 1am.It certainly seemed that everyone had a wonderful time celebrating the Tercentenary with many positive comments received from Brethren:

“The Summer Ball was an amazing event, my wife and I, along with our guests, thoroughly enjoyed the evening and it was such a fantastic celebration”: W. Bro. the Rev. Canon Peter Taylor (Prince Rupert Lodge No.7841) Not only was the evening a celebration of Freemasonry, it was additionally successful in raising over £10,000 for the 2022 Masonic Charitable Foundation Festival which will go towards the target of £1.8 million to be raised by the Province over the next 5 years. The Provincial Grand Master said: “What a wonderful way to commemorate the Tercentenary of the Grand Lodge of England by bringing many Brethren and their families together to celebrate this special night.”

Sonic Fest

The Leicestershire & Rutland community tercentenary event or “Sonic Fest”, was a resounding success with 270 people attending all day enjoying a great value 5 course banquet.

Some stayed for 12 hours and many others arrived throughout the day bringing friends & family to enjoy the entertainment. In total there were nearly 500 guests throughout the entire day. Many families, and in some instances four generations enjoyed the day, which included inflatables for the children, a superb character actor who entertained the crowd with Keith Lemmon , Donald Trump & Simon Cowell appearances. The day was blessed with terrific weather, which set the scene for a great event. The varied entertainment included music for all ages, as well as good food and enough marquee & dance floor space for everyone to dance well into the evening. The twelve hours

of continuous entertainment flowed seamlessly as organised by Bro. Paul Grant Reason & his lovely wife Tamsin. The last act were the Fantastic Austrian Stones who performed their final set at 1am, and the DJ, Bro. Scot Bailye span his last disc & the bar shut soon after. A short live early evening auction of holidays, photographer sessions,

throughout the afternoon. The picnic was held to celebrate the Teddies for Loving Care scheme which has provided over 2 million teddies to children in A&E departments across the country. Supplied by Freemasons, the teddies are used to comfort children visiting hospitals and are used as a distraction or helpful show-andtell. Over 23,707 Teddies have been given by us free of charge to children who have attended A&E at Leicester Royal Infirmary. The Provincial Grand Master, R.W. Bro. David Hagger, said: “My

sailing trips, and F1 hospitality helped not only to cover the cost of the event, but also raised over £5,000 to the Festival for the Masonic Charitable Foundation . The whole emphasis of the day was not to just have a charity event, but to have a great party and celebrate the 300th birthday of organised Freemasonry.

children and grand-children came along and really enjoyed the afternoon. It was a great way to celebrate the achievements of the Teddies for Loving Care scheme and also our Tercentenary.”

300th Anniversary commemorative blue plaques unveiled at

Masonic Halls across the Province On 24th June 1717, four lodges, which had existed for some time in London, formed the Grand Lodge of England which has since continued to administer lodges across the country including the 76 lodges and their 3,000 members in Leicestershire and Rutland.

was formed in 1864 which also met at the King’s Head before moving to the Town Hall, after a disagreement with the landlady over the charge of 25 shillings per meeting. In 1956, the Masonic Lodges in the town purchased the Old Adult School in Ashby Square which has continued to serve as their meeting place. A total of 7 lodges meet at the hall today which makes it one of the largest halls outside of Leicester.

Ashby-de-la-Zouch

Leicester

The earliest known lodge in Leicester was established in 1739 and met at the Wheat Sheaf Inn on Humberstone Gate. Other lodges followed including St John’s Lodge in 1790 which is the oldest surviving lodge in Leicester still in existence. In 1859, the two lodges meeting in Leicester, St John’s Lodge, then meeting at the Bell Hotel, and John of Gaunt Lodge raised funds to build a permanent home in Halford Street. The Masonic Hall in Halford Street continued to be the principal place of meeting for 50 years until it was deemed no longer adequate. A freehold Georgian house and its grounds on London Road were purchased in 1909 and the new headquarters were in use a year later in 1910. Freemasons’ Hall has been extended on a number of occasions, particularly in the 1930s and 1960s, and continues as the headquarters for the Province of Leicestershire and 10

Rutland and has 43 lodges meeting there. The building has some of the finest Masonic Lodge Rooms in the country and has a large Masonic Museum with artefacts dating back to the 17th Century.

Syston

The first Masonic Lodge in Syston was formed in 1901, East Goscote Lodge, being granted a Warrant to meet in the village hall. The Master of the Lodge, who owned an old school in Broad Street built a new single storey Masonic Hall which continues to be in use after several extensions over the years. A total of 7 lodges meet at the hall today which makes it one of the largest halls outside of Leicester.

Loughborough

The first Masonic Lodge in Loughborough was formed in 1835 and met at the King’s Head but unfortunately closed in 1853. A new lodge, Howe & Charnwood Lodge,

Leicester Square AUTUMN 2017

The first Masonic Lodge to meet in Ashby-de-la-Zouch was Ivanhoe Lodge which met at the Royal Hotel from 1836 until the Lodge closed in 1841. Another lodge, Ferrers and Ivanhoe, which continues to meet today, was subsequently formed in 1859 and originally met at the Town Hall. In 1981, the old Lyric Picture Palace was purchased for £7,000 and refurbished at a total cost of £94,500. The Lyric Rooms continues to host the two Ashby lodges and serves the local community.

Coalville The first Masonic Lodge in Coalville, Grace Dieu Lodge, was formed in 1892 which met at the Masonic rooms situated next to the Railway Hotel. In 1926, a Committee was formed to raise money to pay for the building of the present Masonic Hall in Park Road which was subsequently opened in 1928. This Hall continues to be used by the two Masonic Lodges that meet in Coalville.

Hinckley

The first Lodge to meet in Hinckley, the Knights of Malta Lodge, was brought to Hinckley from Macclesfield

in 1803. The Lodge met at various inns in Hinckley over a number of years. As the popularity of Freemasonry rose it was necessary to find a permanent home and land was bought in St Mary’s Road to build a Masonic Hall. The Hall was opened in 1928 and continues to host the lodges that meet in Hinckley along with serving the local community.

Melton Mowbray

The first Masonic Lodge in Melton Mowbray, Rutland Lodge, was formed in 1866 which met at the George Hotel. Subsequently, the stabling at the Wicklow Hunting Lodge on Burton Road was purchased for conversion into the present Masonic Hall. This was opened in 1951 and continues to serve the 3 Masonic Lodges that meet there.

Oakham

Vale of Catmos Lodge was formed in 1869 and met at the Agriculture Hall in Oakham. In 1877, the Lodge decided to meet in licenced premises and moved to the George Hotel. After 10 years, the Lodge moved back to the Agriculture Hall which was subsequently renamed Victoria Hall to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. An opportunity rose to utilise the accumulated funds of a member’s legacy to secure long term accommodation at the Old Hall at Oakham School. Two lodges have met there for the last 9 years.

Uppingham

The Uppingham in Rutland Lodge was consecrated in 1984 and meets at the

Provincial NEWS Upper Cricket Pavillion in Uppingham. After each meeting, members dine at the Falcon Hotel which has provided the Lodge with a superb facility for over 30 years.

Market Harborough

St Peter’s Lodge was granted a Warrant in 1870 to meet at the Three Swans Hotel in Market Harborough. As Masonry began to expand its popularity, a building fund was established in 1967 to build a permanent home. Land was purchased in Kings Road and the current Masonic Hall was built and opened in 1968 where currently two lodges continue to meet today.

Lutterworth

Wiclif Lodge was granted a Warrant in 1904 to meet in the Upper Room of the Town Hall in Lutterworth. The Lodge continued to meet at the Town Hall until 1963 when they moved to their permanent residence at the former Ritz Cinema. More recently further refurbishment and an extension has been undertaken. The Wycliffe Rooms now acts as both a Masonic Hall for the two lodges and also a Community Centre for a wide range of activities. The plaques were unveiled by the Provincial Grand Master of Leicestershire and Rutland, R.W.Bro David Hagger and was supported by the Mayors of Charnwood, Oakham, Lutterworth and a large number of members, family and friends.

David Hagger, said: “We are celebrating 300 years of Freemasonry and the foresight and courage of our forebears to perceive and enhance our society over the centuries. If we continue to pursue our ideals of integrity, fairness and honesty, Freemasonry will continue to flourish in Leicestershire and Rutland” He added: “We’ll also be holding several public events throughout 2017 including opening the doors to our Masonic Halls during the Heritage Open Days for everyone to see inside and an exhibition at Newarke Houses Museum in Leicester on Freemasonry highlighting the contribution of Freemasons to our local communities. We hope this will lead to further interest and a better understanding of our historic fraternity.” NOW a 'WHICH TRUSTED TRADER' and supplier for ESPO

Grand Lodge of Leicestershire & Rutland and the United Grand Lodge of England as part of the Tercentenary celebrations.

The Midlands route was arranged by W. Bro. David Crocker, Province of Leicestershire & Rutland which started at the Devonshire Court RMBI Home in Oadby at 10.00am. This gave the residents a chance to look at the vehicles including Mrs Edna Edmond, originally from Bridlington, who very much admired the special edition Mike Tunnicliffe E-type Jaguar.

The classic car and bike enthusiasts then drove in convoy the 15 mile journey to Bradgate Park on the outskirts of north Leicester. Upon arrival, they were warmly greeted by the Provincial Grand Master of Leicestershire and Rutland, R.W. Bro. David Hagger. Many then walked through the Park to the site of the Memorial Wood that is being funded by the Provincial

The Park Ranger, Peter Tyldesley, gave a very interesting talk on the history of the park and also the construction of the Memorial Wood which is due to be opened by the Pro Grand Master, R.W. Bro. Peter Lowndes on Thursday 5th October 2017. The visitors were shown the newly installed 14 tonne granite stone which is to be the centrepiece for the wood, along with a walk around the paths which have been created to meander throughout the one acre wood. After a slow walk back to the cars in the warm sunshine everyone then continued onto the Grey Lady Kitchen and Deli in Newtown Linford for Sunday lunch and thus completing a very enjoyable day in the company of many friends and family.

proudly represent the province MACE (the Masonic Annual Charity Event) held its seventh annual event in Dorchester on Friday 4th August 2017, featuring teams from sixteen Provinces from all across the country. The Leicestershire & Rutland rink won three of the four games but sadly missed out on one of the three play-off places by one point. The weather was very kind and £3,000 was raised for three local charities in Dorset. The 2018 MACE event will be “at home” on 10th August 2018 at Melton Mowbray and it is hoped that more than one rink can be entered. 300 Mile Cycle Ride

Raises over £21,000

The 300 mile trip not only marked the 300th anniversary of Freemasonry but raised over £21,000.00 to be split equally between the Rainbows Children’s Hospice in Loughborough and the Masonic Charitable Foundation. The 23 cyclists ranged from 19 to 64 years of age and were from 15 masonic lodges based in Leicester, Oakham, Syston, Market Harborough and Ashbourne in Derbyshire. They were waved off from Freemasons’ Hall, Leicester by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, V.W. Bro. Jim Buckle, and Helen Smith from Rainbows, and during the ride were welcomed by Brethren at the Masonic Centres in Loughborough, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Coalville, Hinckley, Lutterworth, Market Harborough, Uppingham, Oakham, Melton Mowbray and Syston. They were also warmly welcomed at Freemasons’ Hall, London by the Chief Executive of the Masonic Charitable Foundation, David Innes. The cyclists made a quick detour in London to visit St. Paul’s Churchyard where the first Grand Lodge of England was formed 300 years ago in 1717 at the Goose and Gridiron ale-house. W. Bro. Simon Oldfield from the Wyggeston Lodge and organiser of the event, said: “We are all proud to have taken part in a great adventure, and such an achievement by all the riders and support crew, great team spirit and camaraderie to raise money for charity.” The cyclists arrived back on schedule at Freemasons’ Hall Leicester where they were welcomed by the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, V.W. Bro. Peter Kinder and a large number of family and friends.

Bro. Chris Panteli, also from Wyggeston Lodge, said: “A truly amazing four days, that started out with mostly strangers and finished with friends. I learnt a lot about myself whilst doing what I love to raise money for extremely worthy causes. I am both extremely proud and humbled by the whole event.” W. Bro. Paul Simpson, Master of St. Wilfrid’s Lodge in Market Harborough said: “The whole experience was most enjoyable. Hard work and tough at times but I have an immense feeling of satisfaction. This is what Freemasonry is all about. Working together as a team to raise funds for charity whilst having great fun in doing so. I made some friends that will be friends for life now.” Planning has already started for the 2018 event, spanning Saturday 9th to Sunday 10th June.

Fund Raising Events

Clay Pigeon Shooting

Brethren from Jason Lodge No.7716 and the Lodge of Friendship No.7168 both held separate fundraising events over the summer. “Jason Lodge kicked off the first of its 2022 Festival charity fund raising events of the summer, which was held at Lakeside Sporting, Clay Grounds, Wymeswold on Saturday 20th May, whilst The Lodge of Friendship held their event at Doveridge Clay Sports Club, Derbyshire on Friday 14th July 2017” For what can be a tricky sport, the brethren still managed a respectable hit rate of 165 out of the 300. A cup of tea and a delicious cream tea soon lifted the spirits of shooters. The best shot of the day was our Entered Apprentice Steve (Ned) Kelly.

There and back again.......

a backpack for the 2022 Festival

At the Lodge of the Holy Well (7827) Installation Meeting W. Bros. David Foster and Jon Ivins announced their plans to do a hike to raise money for the Festival. The walk was to be based around the Nine Edges challenge (designed by the Edale Mountain Rescue organisation) with extra miles at the start and end of the hike. The total mileage covered was planned to be slightly over 60 miles. While Jon is an experienced backpacker it would be David’s first time being a self-sufficient and self-propelled hiker. The Nine Edges walk covers the magnificent limestone escarpments in the Dark Peak, starting from Derwent Edge in the North and ending at Birchen Edge in the South. It is a 23 miles long traverse over high, exposed moorland with no shelter. The extensions were from Hope, via the lower slopes of the Kinder area to LadyBower and hence to Derwent Edge to start the Nine Edges and from Birchen Edge to Matlock via the Chatsworth Estate and Derwent Valley Way afterwards. After the challenge was completed, both David and Jon had been saturated, windblown, cold and hot, yomped across miles of open moorland, made countless ascents and descents, been beyond tired, seen hares, grouse and deer and had been thoroughly awed by the wild beauty of the moors and their vistas. In addition, in excess of £650 including gift aid had been raised for the 2022 Festival. David and Jon would like to sincerely thank all the Brethren who so kindly sponsored them.

Loughborough Masons Jump for Charity be driven for 20 minutes into the hills along a single track road to the takeoff site. The launch site was on the south side of a sharp ridge offering wonderful sea views.

Two Masons from the Lodge of Science & Art No.8429, Tony Andrews, Digby Lund and his wife Yvonne made their charity jump on Sunday 3rd September 2017 (Tony’s 49th birthday) with Tony’s wife Elanor providing support. Upon their arrival the pilots, Antonio and his colleague Jose arrived by air right in front of the jumpers, showing how best to land. This was a valuable lesson to be learned - run and don’t stop before the man with the wing does, otherwise a pile up ensues! Tony and Yvonne set off first to

www.pglleics.org.uk

Antonio and Jose set about strapping the two would be flyers into their harnesses. Very important to get this done correctly as any errors cannot be corrected in flight and could result in a very uncomfortable trip. The instructions were very simple, when told to, run down the slope until the ground falls away. In Tony’s case a false start led to Jose stumbling, but after a few steps both were on their way. Yvonne’s takeoff was less eventful though, she being determined to become airborne without repeating the stumbling start. The flights down were very smooth

LeicsFreemasons

and offered amazing views out to sea and along the coast. Both were lucky enough to have fairly good landings, though Tony collected a lot of the beach in his shoes and some in his knees! Digby’s flight showed the advantage of being so much taller than Antonio when taking off from such a steep slope, a couple of steps and then off into the blue yonder. Having all safely returned to earth the group exchanged feelings about their flights, the heightened heart rate before and during takeoff, the gradual relaxing as the flight continued and then the increasing tension as the ground rapidly approached. But everyone agreed the venture had been well worthwhile and hope the donations will fully reflect their efforts.

Burbach Lodge hold a Caribbean Party to

Raise £3,780 for cancer charity

On Saturday 5th August 2017, around 160 Burbach Lodge No.8699 members, their families and friends enjoyed a fun filled afternoon and evening of music and Caribbean food in the grounds of W.Bro. Peter and Irene Faulkner’s home. Thunderstorms and heavy rain an hour before the event started, did not put off the hardy revellers and when the sun came out and shined upon all those present the afternoon became complete and coupled with the beautiful grounds and setting through the hard work of W.Bro. Peter they could not have asked for more. The party was attended by the Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. David Hagger and the Assistant Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of England & Wales, R.W.Bro. Stephen Davison, who both enjoyed the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The famous ‘Caribbean Regals Steel Band’ entertained the guests who were treated to a selection of excellent Caribbean food, which along with rum punch, certainly added to the party fun. The event continued with ‘The Gritters’ cover band who

Simon Mepstead said: “My wife and I have been unbelievably touched by the generosity of so many people, that gave up their afternoon to support us and raise a fantastic amount for the MacMillan Charity. As always events like these don’t happen on their own and without the support, hard work and dedication of W.Bro. Peter and Irene Faulkner and Bro. Steve and

A First for

Granstone Lodge

On the 20th April 2017, a special event occurred at the Granstone Lodge No. 6406 Installation Ceremony, at Freemasons’ Hall, Leicester. Thirty years to the month after his own Installation as Worshipful Master, Lodge Secretary, Graham Langley, took over the Chair from the outgoing Worshipful Master, Keith Goode, to install his son, Jeremy “Jem” Langley into the Chair of King Solomon. It was a particularly emotional occasion as Jeremy had previously postponed his progression, due to a long-term illness incurred by his wife, Sue, who has since made a full recovery. The Lodge was honoured by the presence of the Assistant Provincial

Grand Master, Very Worshipful Bro. Peter C Kinder, escorted by the Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies, W. Bro. Steven Skidmore. Over 40 Brethren attended the Ceremony, in the impressive surroundings of the Holmes Lodge Room and Festive Board, both under the capable direction of Director of Ceremonies, W. Bro. Mark Taylor. At the Festive Board, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master pointed out that this was the first time a father had installed his son in the seventyyear history of the Lodge.

Granstone Lodge had seen some difficult times, until a few years ago, when the Provincial Grand Master asked several experienced Masons to guide it through its recovery. Whilst membership is still small, a steady stream of new, younger members has ensured continued growth and a vibrant future.

The White Ribbon Club freely and to discuss their Masonic journeys in a relaxed convivial atmosphere. Stand by for further details!.............

With the summer now over and the flip flops finally dispatched to the back of the wardrobe for another year, our thoughts turn to the new Masonic season. During the summer months the WRC committee have been listening to the feedback we have received from Companions of the Province. Along with our colleagues at the LBC we have agreed we should look to combine our resources whilst retaining our individual status. Many LBC members have now taken or are looking to take the fourth step in Masonry and as a result we have decided the LBC & WRC should combine resources and encourage greater links between the two organisations, encouraging all Master Masons to join the Royal Arch.

It is our intention to commence conjoined events allowing Master Masons & Companions to talk

Could you be sitting on a Goldmine? Ok, so maybe there isn’t a literal fortune tied up in your property. But expert analysis by Cornerstone, the leading experts on SDLT and property taxes in the UK, suggests that there’s a good chance there’s money in your property you didn’t even know about. Due to misclassification of properties, misunderstanding of reliefs and exemptions, and poorly drafted, indecipherable primary legislation like the recent introduction of the 3% ‘second home surcharge’, more mistakes than ever are being made on UK Stamp Duty Land Tax returns. That means money paid over to HMRC which should rightfully be sitting in bank accounts, paying for extensions, or funding family holidays. Thankfully, there is a solution. Acting on the unprecedented scale of this issue, Cornerstone have set up SDLT Refunds, a specialist arm dedicated to examining historical transactions and ensuring that buyers get their real money’s worth.

DEVONSHIRE COURT

Ascot Day at Devonshire Court The Residents of Devonshire Court, our Masonic Home at Oadby, together with Brethren of the Province, supported by family members, and friends enjoyed an exciting afternoon horse racing. The races attracted a queue of people trying their luck, and each race was sponsored by Lodges, or individual Brethren and Friends. There was a prize of a bottle of bubbly awarded to the owners of the winning Horse by the Chairman of the Friends of Devonshire Court, W. Bro. David Lathrope. A prize was also awarded to the Lady with the best style “Ascot Hat”. This event has been run by the Friends of Devonshire Court for a number of years, and is a part of their efforts to raise funds for the Friends Association, which endeavours to make the residents life happy and enjoyable.

“I do like to be beside the seaside” In July the Care Team from Devonshire Court, the R.M.B.I. Care home in Oadby, took many of the residents, including those suffering from dementia, on a day trip to Skegness. The trip was part of a programme set up by the Home in which residents were invited to tell the team what was their dream. The team then went about trying to make their dreams come true. One 96 year old lady wanted to go back to the place of her birth. This was achieved by taking her to Walthamstow where she was able to see the house where she was born, and sample the pie, mash, and liquor at Manzie’s café. Another resident, a Brother from Warwickshire was taken to the Richard III visitor Centre in Leicester. The trip to Skegness was a great success. With very kind weather, and a wonderful drive through much of rural Leicestershire and Lincolnshire the party arrived at the seaside. After a packed lunch the residents were taken round the great seaside town, down to the beach, sampled the ice cream, seaside rock, and finished with fish and chips wrapped in paper, eaten on the sea front. This wonderful day out was made possible by a generous donation from the Masonic Order of the Secret Monitor.

Houghton Singers to visit Devonshire Court The Lodge of Gratitude No.6514 is pleased to sponsor an upcoming spectacular event at Devonshire Court. On Sunday 26th November, the Houghton Singers will be delighting the residents of Devonshire Court for a wonderful afternoon of singing with a programme entitled “Christmas is just around the corner”, featuring carols and songs from the shows & popular old time sing along favourites. The choral event is due to start at 3pm, and will include complimentary wine, sherry, cakes, teas & coffees. Tickets for Visitors are available from W.Bro. Richard Brocklehurst of the Lodge of Gratitude who can be reached at richardbrock@hotmail.co.uk
