His role is to liaise with Lodge Charity Steward and coordinate and assist with any events that the Lodge has planned. These are then reported back and if assistance or support from the Province is needed we will endeavour to help. The Events Committee is also in the course of putting on other major functions and fund raising initiatives to help the Province reach its target of £1.5 million. These include for 2008/2009 a Car Dash, Four Peaks Challenge, an Inter Lodge Quiz and a Summer Ball. We are also in the process of distributing free tubes of Smarties, which, when the contents have been eaten, we hope Brethren fill with 20p pieces to assist the Festival. We have also produced Breast Cancer Ribbon Broaches with a Square and Compass in the centre which

will be sold for £5 each. The proceeds of the sales will be divided equally between Breast Cancer Research and the 2012 Festival, demonstrating yet again Freemasonry supporting the wider community. Included with the Provincial Grand Lodge Summons mailing was an application form for the 2012 Stewards Jewel, which is featured on the front page of this issue of Leicester Square. Once a Brother has donated at least £100 to the Festival he can apply for the Jewel. It can be purchased with a case which has an insert specifically made to hold up to four Jewels for display in jacket breast pockets. The cost for the Jewel and case is £20 or £15 for the Jewel on its own. Up to the end of September 2008 we have been able to send on to the RMBI £525,000 all of which is attracting interest at the higher rate. Now that the 2008/2009 Masonic season is fully underway I hope that Lodges will send any donations which come from their 2012 raffles etc into the Charity
Office immediately so that we can get the 1.75% extra interest on these monies from the RMBI. This extra rate of interest will play a large part in helping us to achieve our target so please do not keep monies for the Festival in your Lodge accounts until 2011 we need it now...... PLEASE. This notional interest will be credited at the end of the Festival to each Lodge. Thank you all for everything you are doing to help us with the Festival which as you know allows the RMBI to run their homes, such as Devonshire Court, and cater for those less fortunate than ourselves. he 1st of June seems a long time ago, however the sun shone throughout the day, helping to make it another success for the Morley Lodge summer BBQ, presided over this year by Worshipful Master Mike Fisher and held at the home of Bro. John Hall and his wife Jan. Once again a full team of cooks from the Morley Lodge, were ably assisted by Jan and her team of family members and friends, providing delicious salads and desserts. The proceeds of the event this year were in aid of the 2012 Festival, which raised £1350 (this included takings of £400 raffle). As the PGM witnessed the efforts on the day of the BBQ, it is quite appropriate that his attendance at Morley Ladies Night, on the 19th September, should be marked by the presentation of a cheque for £1350.

THE PROVINCIAL GRAND MASTER’S ADDRESS TO THE BRETHREN Welcome
WINTER 2008
On television one is normally able to enjoy the programme before suffering the commercial – no such luck this evening. The most important event within the eleven year cycle is the advent of a Festival on behalf of one of the four charities. In November 2006 I announced the start of our Festival on behalf of the R.M.B.I. in 2012 and brought you up to date with progress after one year in 2007. Tonight we are two years into the five year cycle, nearly half way and I would like to give you the latest news on our progress so far. In 2007 I advised you that at that time we had passed over £355,000 to the R.M.B.I. To achieve our target we need to pass over £225,000 each year from donations
Festival
and I would just again like to extend my personal thanks for their support by their attendance this evening.
Brethren, this is the seventh occasion of a Provincial Grand Lodge at which I have had the pleasure of addressing you. Whilst of necessity some of it may bear a great similarity to previous years it is nevertheless of great relevance again this year. Likewise for my part it does not lose the excitement it invokes for me to be able to deliver it.
M
LEICESTER SQUARE
ay I start by welcoming you all to this Annual Communication for 2008 of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Leicestershire & Rutland. Many of you travel from the extremes of the counties and some from beyond their boundaries. I thank you all for your support. That support makes it all worthwhile for the Executive Officers of the Province. It is a pity we can’t all be assembled in one room but I can assure those in the Holmes Lodge Room that, having viewed the video of the 2007 Communication, you have a better view than those in here. The use of four cameras ensures you can see the faces of some, who those in here are only able to see the back of their heads. Such is progress. It means little is hidden from view and all our faults are recorded. I have already introduced our distinguished guests and Heads of Orders to you 6
by Brethren and Lodges. I can tell you that at this time we have passed over £620,000 to the Charity. Earlier in the year I felt that the appeal was lacking in impetus and I decided to ask V. W. Bro. David Hagger to accept the role of Deputy Chairman to introduce some new ideas and stimulate interest in the appeal so that we might reach and pass our target. He has devoted a great deal of time and energy and now has a very good team centred on each of the eleven Masonic halls in the Province to bring forward fund raising events. The list of events is now extensive and every Brother in the Province should be well aware of them both within their provincial centres and within the Masonic Province. I must stress that events organised by the Province whether with a capital or small ‘p’ are not a substitute for every Brother’s support. I said at the outset that I was aware some Brethren may find that donating the amount to enable the Lodge to reach its target would be a struggle and that in true Masonic fashion the Lodge should assist by holding events and thereby ensure it reached its target. That is still true today but the percentage of Brethren donating is disappointing in many cases. I have seen reports with as low as 16% of a Lodge membership participating. I say to you all that Charity is one of the three tenets of our
Masonry. Please assist your Lodge Charity Steward - he can only ask you. Without your support his task is hard and it will dampen his enthusiasm without results. Just remember the North East Corner and put into action what you professed at your initiation. Last year at this time I mentioned the Classic car dash. I am afraid for various reasons it had to be postponed for a year but is now on schedule for 16th August 2009 with events planned in all of the ten provincial centres to be visited by my Deputy, Assistant and myself. This is a way in which the whole Province, and by that I mean every Brother, can join in a fund raising event which will involve very serious prizes but in addition a happy social gathering and the opportunities of enjoying a day out. I am glad to see that many here this evening are wearing the Festival tie and a few the Festival jewel. I do hope that in future years those not wearing the tie at Lodge and Provincial meetings will be the minority rather than the majority at present and that almost everybody will be wearing a jewel. The qualification for purchase of a jewel is the donation of a minimum of £100 to the Festival so there is rarely a case where a Brother is not qualified to wear one. The profits from the sale of the ties
and jewels will all be used in underwriting some of the costs of holding the Festival.
Charity
Whilst we are concentrating on the 2012 Festival the Province has not lost sight of the duty it has to local charities both in the city and county. To this end a gathering of recipients was held earlier this month here in the building to hand over, to a number of them, cheques for their individual charity thereby bringing the total number of recipients up to in excess of 30 charities. We were again supported by the Lord Lieutenant and we were able to give to her a cheque for her personal charity. I believe that by grouping the presentations we are able to make a greater impression on the press. All so often good news is no news and goes unreported. Three particular events I believe merit special mention. In August W. Bro. Richard White and I were able to visit Castle Donnington and make a presentation from the Grand Charity to the Air Ambulance. This was replicated by all other Provinces and is an excellent example of Masonic giving to local charity. At the presentation earlier I was able to present cheques to Mablethorpe Childrens Centre and the St John’s Ambulance, Leicestershire Branch resulting from the Classic Car Rally organised by W. Bro. Richard White.
This year some 43 classic cars participated. It is the third such event of its kind in the province and to date over £25,000 has been raised by this event and distributed. We are also receiving recognition for the work we are carrying out in restoring church clocks. Last year the clock on St Nicholas church was refurbished and repaired by W. Bro. Richard White and an electric winding mechanism provided. The costs were met by the L & R M C A. I can say that the clock keeps better time than the Cathedral Clock. This year the clock on All Saints Church is being refurbished and restored. It is a particularly rare clock with a pair of striking jacks which had been broken off by vandals. The Oak case, several hundred years old had lost its painted details and needed repair. This has been undertaken by W. Bro. Brian Watts and Joe Springthorpe and the repainting by W. Bro. Ivan Jarvis. It is a big undertaking and already has attracted the attention, by reason of its uniqueness of Central Television. Again I believe it is a way in which we can put back something into society that otherwise would have been left undone. I particularly mention the clock projects as they are an example of Brethren giving of their skills and not just a call for cash. There must

be many cases where >> this can be extended. If you know of them please let the Charity Office know. In parallel with our support of the RMBI festival in 2012 is the continuing support this Province gives to Devonshire Court. The great majority give through their Lodges to the Friends of Devonshire Court and more tangible support is the number of events and functions individual Lodges hold at the home. Last year there were over thirty such events and this year already twenty one are planned. Amongst those events have been the Fairs in the summer and at Christmas and this year a Hog Roast raised over £10,000 despite appalling weather. The Province has worked hard to raise funds for a replacement coach and now thanks to a magnificent grant from the Mark Masons we have not only managed to acquire a new coach capable of taking three wheelchairs but also to buy a ‘pope mobile’ for single wheelchair use and to refurbish the existing coach. What a magnificent achievement and I do thank everybody, wives included, who devote their energies and money to this excellent facility we have in this Province.
Membership
LEICESTER SQUARE
WINTER 2008
Earlier in the evening you heard from the Provincial Grand Registrar who had prepared a report on the year’s movement in membership. 8
This is a particularly difficult task and one which takes a great deal of time if we are to have accurate records. At page 21 of the Reports you will see tabulated the results of their labours and I am delighted to see that again this year we are increasing slightly in membership. Last year, I believe as a result of the increases in Grand Lodge, Grand Charity and Provincial dues, we had a dip in membership. That is a rare occurrence in this Province. I am, though, greatly encouraged by the number of Lodges who already are scheduling in extra meetings to accommodate an increase in Candidates and two Lodges who are altering their Bylaws to increase the number of their meetings each year. Before Christmas many Lodges hold their Installation Festivals and therefore the number of initiations are lower during the three months period of September to November. This indicates we have our recruitment policy about right. On this I again express my grateful thanks to Michael Turnbull, John Booton, Brian Golland and Philip Dodd who have given so much time in organising and holding open evenings for Lodges. So far in a six year period they have held over 52 such evenings and records show that 174 candidates have been introduced as a result. Those candidates are from 722 guests who attended, representing a 24.1% success rate. Equally important, 548 people have left the meetings better informed about freemasonry. Having been successful in attracting candidates it is essential that we do all we can to retain them. It is all too easy to ignore them once they have been initiated which, if it happens, will lead to a lack of interest and resignation. To assist in retention a large number of Lodges have now appointed a mentor or mentors and this too seems to be working. Up to last year over a four year period we only lost 16 initiates during their first year of membership. This equates to an average of four per year. It is inevitable that some initiates will find that Masonry is not for them and leave quite quickly. What we must ensure is that they don’t leave through lack of T.L.C. To help mentors in their task, which is quite onerous if undertaken properly Provincial Grand Masters have been given the opportunity to appoint a Provincial Grand Mentor although at this time the Board of General Purposes has not regularised this and no apron or jewel exists. I have availed myself and asked W. Bro. Brian Cowley to accept his office. As a first task I have given him a print out of the mentoring disk published by Grand Lodge. It runs to 176 pages and in that format is unlikely
to be read by many. He will construct an abridged form which will retain all the essential advice and which will be made available during the coming year. This will be in addition to the excellent booklet on mentoring we already issue to Lodges.
Oration
You will have noticed that during the appointments to Provincial Grand Rank I included that of an Orator. This is now a recognised official rank and at this time is filled by W. Bro. Joe Gaskell. To date nineteen orations have been approved by Grand Lodge and circulated to all Provincial Mentors. They are highly readable and informative and will, I believe, be well received as a daily advancement in Masonic Knowledge. In length they are about 10 minutes and we are instructed to read them verbatim. The period when a Brother retires to restore himself after the ceremony provides an ideal time during which an oration, appropriate to the degree being worked, can be read. It is not intended that the Provincial Grand Orator will perform this in Lodges. He will advise a Lodge orator who should be chosen for his diction and presentational skills. It is hoped they will stimulate thought and hopefully discussion. They will also give a good basis on which Freemasonry can be discussed with those outside the Craft. The use of these orations is a matter in which the Pro
Grand Master has taken a particular interest and I do commend them to you.
Royal Arch
Those of you who read the Quarterly Communications from Grand Lodge will know that there has been a very serious look at the attitudes towards the Holy Royal Arch and its recruitment and retention. Some years ago the ritual was amended to make it more acceptable although this change could not be expected to improve on recruitment. In an effort to increase the awareness of the Holy Royal Arch the Grand Superintendent has made some very recent and, I believe, worthwhile changes. Working from ground roots he has appointed, in each Lodge, a Royal Arch member to be his representative. These representatives are grouped under an ambassador. A senior and well qualified Royal Arch mason who will give guidance and advice and form a two way link between the executive of the Order and the Lodge representatives. I have also approved the inclusion on Lodge summons of an item to read. ‘To report on matters appertaining to the Holy Royal Arch’. The representative will then make such reports as are necessary and at some meetings may purely rise to report that there is nothing under this item.
Very shortly all Brethren who have passed their third degree will receive a joint letter from the Grand Superintendant and myself recommending consideration of membership of the Order. I have been a Royal Arch mason for 40 years and do not regret joining. Some may say a little early having joined only four years after my initiation. I would disagree. Those early years enabled me to sit and assimilate the ceremony and its meaning. As Provincial Grand Master I know that my Appointments Committee consider very seriously whether a Brother is a Royal Arch Mason before recommending him for active first rank appointment. Brethren the Order and the actions now put in place by the Grand Superintendent have my full support and I commend it to those of you who are not yet members.
Thanks
Before I conclude my address I would like to express my personal thanks to those many members of the Province who work so hard to enable us to enjoy our Masonry. In that I include both those here at London Road and the other ten centres in the two counties. There are too many to name individually and all merit equal thanks. There are in addition various executive officers who also devote much time

into ensuring that all >> in the Province runs smoothly. Firstly to my Deputy who gives total loyal support to me and seems to be able to cope with whatever I ask him to do. His involvement now in the 2012 Festival has invoked a great wave of enthusiasm for which he is responsible. We all hope that by his efforts and assisted by the many round him that we will be able to look with pride at our efforts in 2012. To my Assistant who despite running a busy Architectural Practice always has time to attend to Provincial matters whenever asked. I have special thanks for my Provincial Grand Secretary who despite only having been in post for ten months has filled the office with quiet efficiency and has immediately been accepted with admiration by all those with whom he comes into contact. He is of course ably assisted by his Assistant and W. Bro. Brian Cowley who do so much to take the load off his shoulders. I have already mentioned my Past Deputy and commented on the work he does in organising and running open evenings and I would also like to thank my Past Assistant for running the Appointments and Promotions Committee in addition to his task as Chairman of the 2012 Festival and Chairman of the Friends of Devonshire Court. We must not forget the Grand Officers who fulfil Liaison duties and the visits 10
and reports they make on Lodges and those Brethren eligible for appointment and promotion. Without their help we would be lost. I have already paid tribute to the Past Provincial Grand Superintendent of Works and his long and invaluable service to this Hall. He has for the past twelve months been ably assisted by his replacement whom I know will give us equal attention in maintaining this magnificent building. To the Charity Office, the Year Book Office, the Custodian and the Library and Museum and what we affectionably call the Front Office – where in each are a dedicated band of workers, mainly voluntary, and without those willing help I shudder to think what would happen. Thank you to you all. We must not forget W. Bro. David Lathrope who each year attends and sets up the sound and vision facilities which enable us to use both Lodge Rooms and Dining Rooms. The saving of not having to rent outside accommodation is considerable. Thank you W. Bro. David who whilst I can’t see I know he can see and hear me. This Hall is renowned for its catering and in that we must thank John Stew, the General Manager and his Assistant Karolina and the head chef David Muir and the other Chefs, kitchen and waiting staff. We have, through their efforts achieved a standard of which we can be justly proud and which many, I suspect, would like to emulate.
To an extent our catering also has to thank Nicola Holyoake and her team at Devonshire Place who, by virtue of the outside business she introduces, makes possible the constant improvement in facilities in which we enjoy our Festive Boards. Without her input the cost of the meals would be in excess of £6.00 more expensive if we wish to continue the standards we have achieved and now enjoy. In all of this my Deputy and Assistant Provincial Grand Master join me in thanking those I have mentioned. If I have inadvertently omitted any I do apologise. I only wish time permitted me to thank everyone personally. Your efforts do not go unnoticed. A big thank you to you all. It only now remains for me to thank you for your attendance here this evening. I do hope you have found it worthwhile and will continue to enjoy the remainder of the evening and festive board.
Brethren enjoy your Masonry and God bless you all.

Lodge Visit In Galway
WRITTEN BY David Crocker
With my father (I am a Lewis) we made a visit to the Connaught Lodge No.14 in Galway, under the Grand Lodge of Ireland, through the kind courtesy of the Secretary W. Bro Trevor McCamley. This is one of the oldest and dates back to around 1726. They also have other side degrees especially Chapter, Mark and Rose Croix.
WINTER 2008
Fishermen’s boats docked in the harbour. Galway, Ireland LEICESTER SQUARE
T
here are some 35,000 lodge members in Eire. They have taken steps in recent years to improve their communication and publicity and with wider fund raising activities, this has helped to increase awareness of the movement and offset certain suspicions. The No.14 lodge is the smallest in Ireland and was
basically a converted two-up two-down terrace house, in the centre of Galway, with minimal facilities. I was then invited to an emergency initiation meeting they were having at 8:00pm on the Tuesday 12th August, having first gained dispensation from “she who must be obeyed”. I was advised that they are much less formal than ourselves. They were right. Having borrowed a white shirt and dark jacket, (I had the foresight to take my own Masonic tie), I found most others (some 22 of them) were in assorted states of dress, aprons worn mostly inside the jacket. The PGM was also there, though no greetings were given, infact he was delegated work on the floor, as positions were filled on the evening. Quite amusing. The meeting commenced, with no processions, or singing of any sort. I am told that the ritual is similar to the Scottish order. The small room laid out similar to our own, though there is a pedestal where the vows are taken in the centre of the room. The initiation was carried out by a variety of officers, with some of the explanations given in a very casual way of just talking to the candidate, with the odd reference to the Masonic explanations. They do not use tracing boards at all. Candidates are not permitted to visit other lodges until they are Master Masons. As a visitor I was asked to address the meeting, and they gave hearty greetings to me. The Festive board was a couple of pints of Guinness and a finger buffet in the pub across the road then depart for home. No toasts or signing, this is only done at their one more formal Installation meeting. Overall I do prefer our traditions and formats and style of ritual. Nonetheless they seem to enjoy their Masonry and have much fun with it. It is always interesting to visit other Lodges, as one can always learn something of interest, and I was pleased to be given such kind and sincere hospitality. I would commend other Brethren while travelling or on holiday to make an effort to visit other lodges as part of the “daily advancement of Masonic knowledge”, the welcome that you receive is always very warm.

The generosity of Freemasons has now made it possible for all of the residents to go out on trips in the two minibuses and we also have a people carrier for short trips to the doctor or dentist. All this began with the Hog Roast Event and the call for help did not go unheeded by local Freemasons and many other masons from further afield. The Friends of Devonshire Court would like to thank all of the people who helped us to reach what appeared to be an unobtainable goal just twelve months ago. 16

ROYAL ARCH MATTERS
“How can we do something about it?”
Freemasonry after the Craft degrees and the final step in pure ancient Masonry. It is, of course, both an integral part of Craft masonry as well as being its completion.” With such a clear lead from UGLE, why is it that on average only 37% of Craft Masons join the Royal Arch? It’s about 35% in Leics & Rutland. Well I’m confident that there are many issues, most of which couldn’t possibly be covered by this article. But one thing I feel certain we can almost all agree on is:-
A Master Mason who hasn’t joined the Supreme Order of the Holy Royal Arch can be compared to an unfinished house.
T

he foundations have been laid (The 1st Degree), the first and second floor walls have been constructed (The 2nd and 3rd Degrees) but it has no roof. Put simply the Master Mason who has not been Exalted has not completed his progress in Pure and Ancient Masonry. On 12th December 2007 the Pro Grand Master announced the following, as a result of a report submitted to him by the 2nd Grand Principal, E Comp George Francis. “I feel that, in general terms, we should all seek to describe the Royal Arch as the next step in
LEICESTER SQUARE
The Second Grand Principals Proposals E Comp George Francis put forward a set of proposals which were approved for adoption by UGLE. Their essential aim is to achieve the following. 1. Each Lodge should appoint a designated Brother, as a Royal Arch Representative, who is a competent source of information about the Royal Arch. 2. He will promote membership of the Royal Arch in an honest, ethical and acceptable manner to the members in his Lodge. 3. He should be able to answer questions about the Order and guide Brethren to a suitable Chapter. During early 2008 I was asked by the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent Comp Peter Kinder to look at how we could get a Royal Arch Representative programme started in this Province. Initially I had discussions with Companions in other Provinces who had their own programmes already underway, to identify both best practise and the pitfalls from their experiences.
Three Key Requirements Firstly the whole programme should have the approval and support of The Provincial Grand Master. Secondly we wanted to establish a structure, which would enable the programme to be both professionally commenced and carefully maintained and supported in the future. Thirdly that Royal Arch Representatives would be carefully selected by their Lodges and properly supported with information and assistance. At this time I would like to thank The Provincial Grand Master, on behalf of the Royal Arch Provincial Executive, for his enthusiastic support. This is demonstrated by his announcement of the implementation of the programme at Provincial Grand Lodge last November. In order to achieve our objective we have enlisted the support of 17 experienced Royal Arch Companions as Ambassadors. Each Ambassador will initially assist either the Lodges in a single Masonic centre or up to six Lodges in London Road, to implement this programme. The Ambassadors were not selected because of their
seniority; but for their drive, enthusiasm and ability to build relationships, with members of the Lodges they would be assisting. These are the same characteristics they will look for in Royal Arch Representatives, along with an ability to identify with the newer, younger members of their Lodges.
Supporting the Royal Arch Representative
It has also been agreed that the Royal Arch Representative will be named on each Craft Lodge summons, with his full contact details. There should also be a specific item of business on every summons, which could be either.
“To receive a report from the Royal Arch Representative” Or simply “Royal Arch matters”
As this programme gets underway we look forward to the Royal Arch Province of Leics & Rutland growing. With many more brethren experiencing that increased level of companionship Royal Arch members enjoy. That journey from the Third Degree in the Craft, into the Royal Arch, brings a glorious and happy conclusion to our daily progress in Pure and Ancient Masonry.

A GREAT OCCASION FOR MASTER MASONS AND NEW RA EXALTEES The 19th of November 2008 was another special occasion for Provincial Grand Chapter as it hosted it’s 5th annual Open Evening for Master Masons, specially designed to give them an insight into the Holy Royal arch and why it is so important to progress into it.
T hose informal occasions have been warm and friendly with a complimentary buffet to follow, During them, the Master Mason has received a brief explanation of the history and purpose of the Holy Royal Arch which aims to further our Masonic experience. The 3 degrees of Craft masonry remain incomplete and the Royal Arch provides the opportunity for the Master Mason to take a 4th and final step on his Masonic journey provincial Grand Lodge already has an excellent mentoring scheme to give information and encouragement to the new Mason and likewise Provincial Grand Chapter recognises how important it is for the new Royal Arch Mason to understand fully the further step he has now taken. Accordingly new Exaltees were also invited to this latest Open Evening and there, in a separate session….. 33 new Companions received explanations in simple terms of the main features of the Exaltation ceremony. Hopefully this will heighten their future enjoyment of Royal Arch masonry. Our open evenings have now attracted over 120 Master Masons and 40% of them have progressed into various Chapters within the Province. This is most encouraging and we believe that the presentation given to the new Exaltees will prove equally worthwhile. Most importantly, we are delighted that the Provincial Grand Master has fully endorsed and supported our initiatives and am sure that both the master masons and the Exaltees were encouraged by his kind words. We aim to repeat this experience during November 2009, when all Master Masons and new Exaltees will have ample notice of the arrangements E Comp Jim Williamson Deputy Grand Superintendent

The introduction of collections at every Chapter meeting as well as other Royal Arch Chapter events will ensure that the Grand Superintendent and his executive are able to continue to contribute to many more charities, as well of course, as ensuring that the Provincial Almoner has funds available via the Grand Superintendents Discretionary Fund to continue his invaluable work. The R. A. Executive are most grateful to all the Royal Arch Masons of Leicestershire & Rutland for their most willing & generous support.

station has also seen tragedy, with five lifeboat crew losing their lives, saving others at sea. A new Lifeboat Station at Whitby was opened in 2007 by The Duchess of Kent, built at a cost of one million pounds on the site of the old lifeboat station which dated back to 1918, and was known by the crew members as the “The Old Tin Shed”. All visitors to the station are actively welcomed, and can be given guided tours, by prior arrangement. There are two lifeboats on station at Whitby, an inshore “D” Class “OEM Stone III”
which is stored in the new boathouse when not in use, and is launched by means of davits into the water, and is able to reach a top speed of 25 knots. The much larger, Trent class boat, is moored afloat, “The George and Mary Webb” is of the type introduced in 1994, weighing in at 27.5 tons, with a top speed of 25 knots, and a range of 250 Nautical miles, this particular boat, has just undergone a major refit at the RNLI Headquarters in Poole, which is hoped will ensure it continues to give many more years of service.
