MESSAGE FROM A SUPPORTER BY SUZANNE HURWITZ I arrived at Lehrman with a dual perspective: I am not only a Lehrman parent of a fifth grade boy named Zachary, but a former NYC elementary school educator for almost 20 years. It is through this combined lens that I have had the pleasure to experience and be WOW’d by Lehrman. A WOW that we all know and appreciate daily. The staff, teachers, and administrators are keenly invested in the well-being and growth of all the children. They inspire and teach, organically by example. The philosophy of education is deeply rooted in the Jewish values of caring for one another. Alvaro and Harry, greet us daily and know every child’s name, coordinate all the pick-ups, and so much more. I ask them how they retain it all, and they just smile. The office staff, regardless of how busy they are, always answer the phones with warmth and patience. The athletic team of Coach Aaron and Coach Gabe instill a love for athletics and the game, while also teaching life lessons, like sportsmanship and how to win gracefully. They are truly outstanding role models. The amazing teachers at Lehrman weave important values into their day. Whether it is responsibility in 5th grade to come to school prepared with a fully charged Chromebook, to remember your books, and be on time. These are the building blocks for success. The Hebrew Department, as well as Rabbi Josh, tell stories each week to instill Jewish values and to teach the children that their actions can impact others. I had the pleasure of spending time with this year's 5th grade class. I co-chaired the 5th grade Mitzvah Club with two other amazing moms, Sarah Burstein and Mara Geronemus. The Mitzvah Club is a privilege for all 5th graders and throughout the year they are involved in making a difference in the community. They were amazing. The science, art, music and technology, teachers bring out the best in our learners and work so hard with their preparation and planning. A few weeks ago when I picked up my son early, he said, "Why did you come now, you know I love robotics!" And when I went with my son to Ransom to experience their new STEM facility, he jumped right into the science experiments and technology components, thanks to his amazing science and technology teachers at Lehrman.

Jason, our Director of Security, is always keeping our kids safe. Jodi and Erica put their heart and soul into Lehrman. We are so lucky to have such dedicated leaders. And of course, the families whose children make this place shine. At Lehrman, our children are immersed in these values and ultimately become their own for a lifetime. Values and kindness embedded in the school day are the secret sauce at Lehrman. The dual curriculum is established, and an expectation is set. The kids enjoy school. They get to feel united as a school and grade. The school has an energy and the teacher’s passions truly ignite the children's love for learning. To kids this is their second home.

As a parent, I have been so grateful for the personal and academic growth I have seen in my son and his classmates. As he moves on to Middle School, I feel strongly that somehow our deep gratitude should have a lasting impact. The physical building needs to match the magic of all that happens inside. Last week, my husband and I attended our son’s 5th grade graduation. We are choosing to support this Capital Campaign to help the school’s physical blueprint grow to meet the potential of what it can and should be. We are forever grateful for Lehrman’s impact on our lives. These gifts being given are for so much more than just the building. It means the Lehrman vision for Jewish education and learning will continue to grow. Let’s grow together as a community and look back and smile at what we made happen. I invite you to be part of the amazing group of families who understand the importance of this campaign. I feel blessed to be in this with you.

PROJECT FAQS What does the Capital Campaign project consist of and what are the construction phases? Phase 1 includes a new, covered carpool lane, which will improve traffic flow and will create a more secure perimeter as students and families enter and exit the building. Phase 1 also entails a renovation of our outdoor spaces, including the creation of a new basketball half court and playgrounds. Phase 2 will include a new 27,000 sq.ft. building with flexible learning and work spaces, as well as several multipurpose rooms, including a new cafeteria, auditorium, indoor gymnasium and specialty labs outfitted with state-of-the-art technology and equipment. What is the Capital Campaign goal? How much has the school raised so far? The Capital Campaign goal is $16M. Lehrman has raised $8,333,910 as of June 1, 2022. What is the current status of construction? We recently began Phase 1 of the project and have an estimated fall 2022 completion date for this phase. How will ongoing construction impact students' school experience and ability to safely play outside? Once school resumes, Phase 1 construction will be near complete. We will also temporarily use the empty lot (the future site of our 27,000 sq.ft. expansion!) for PE classes and recess. Is security being considered with the ongoing construction and plans for the building and expansion? Security remains our top priority. Jason Einbinder, Lehrman’s Director of Security, has been an integral part of the Phase 1 and Phase 2 plans to ensure security goals and expectations are included. What will parking look like during construction? There will be no changes to parent parking either during or after construction. Will carpool be affected? Upon completion of Phase 1, we expect a smoother carpool experience. While construction takes place, we will continue to follow our current carpool procedures. How can I help? Contact Rachel Schilt, Lehrman's Director of Development, to learn more about the Capital Campaign project at rschilt@lehrmanschool.org. You can also visit LehrmanSchool.org/OurFuture. Gifts to our Capital Campaign can be set up in up to 5-year agreements and can be made in monthly, annual, bi-annual or quarterly payments. We are also able to accept gifts in the form of appreciated stock.
