My recovery was built not found, Grown from a tiny seed in the ground.

Watered and tendered to like a child, Nothing big, nothing wild.

Silent, messy and unspoken

Relentless, tiring and slowly woken.

A long treacherous lonely road, The seeds of hope I slowly sowed.

I didn’t know it at the time, There was no big elaborate sign.

But only I could make the choice,

To listen to my own heart’s voice.

Buried a long time ago, Not sure whether friend or foe.

Recovery came from only me, When I chose to believe and see.

To see myself and my worth, That I truly did deserved my birth.

A decision I made again and again, Despite how life will consistently drain.

Recovery came from living and purpose, Learning to embrace this crazy world circus.

Recovery wasn't an actually thing,

It came as excitement in what the future will bring.
