Damon Albarn taking the crown? Fork spotted in the kitchen. Water is wet, and maybe some other things as well. No one was surprised by this turn of events. That ski slope nose of his seems to be what it takes to win hearts. Damon probably considers his good looks a burden rather than anything else. Oh well, our hearts go out to him!
Deity or a dickhead? Liam Gallagher can deliver both. We reckon Mr. Gallagher wouldn't be overjoyed to hear he has been defeated by pretty boy Albarn. Don't worry, Liam, you're number one in the editor's heart even though she knows you'd probably cheat on her.
Do you ever feel like a can of expired pineapples? No one does love and loneliness quite like Wong Kar-wai. Telling the stories of lonely souls drifting in the city drowned in saturated colours with haunting scores, smooth and melancholic jazz, 90s pop radio tracks and of course, California Dreamin'. Wong Kar-wai uses the city he loves, Hong Kong, and its eclectic scenery to disorient and hypnotize us in this non-linear film. Chungking Express is a haze. It's a movie about people feeling lost. It's about the worst kind of loneliness, loneliness in a crowd The city is bursting with people, crowds in all directions, yet you find yourself solemnly staring out the window.
We are offered stories of people who want to connect, but are too lost to do anything about it. It's a beautiful, intimate, funny and bittersweet film. The story might not stick with you, but every time you think of Chungking Express, you will find yourself in that space between dreams and reality.
