Dear Friends, We are pleased to share with you the newest volume of The Legacy Collection. The market reception and popularity of our beautiful magazine continues to grow along with our expanded distribution in more publications and strategic markets across the United States. The one thing we and our recipients across the world have in common is an unparalleled passion for all that is Maine. Since its inception in 2016, we have published and distributed nearly 500,000 copies of the Legacy Collection through The Wall Street Journal, Maine Home & Design, Down East Magazine, and several local Maine publications in our core markets. A couple of weeks ago, I had the good fortune to attend the Global Leadership Conference for Sotheby’s International Realty in Palm Beach Florida. It was a robust group of some of the most successful real estate professionals ever gathered, including more than 450 real estate company owners and managers representing many of the most beautiful places on earth. I was able to connect with dozens of people who shared a Maine experience or dreamed of one in the near future. The networking, idea generation, and brainstorming opportunities were second to none. Most importantly, we were able to share our concerns about a few of the dark clouds on the horizon and the possible impact on our multi-year real estate rally. The key considerations and concerns, among others, are the rising interest rate environment leading to higher mortgage rates and the impact of the newly implemented Tax Reform plan. It was widely agreed that Tax Reform changes may have a more impactful effect on the luxury property market than would a modest rise in borrowing costs. It was clear that many markets around the country and the world are experiencing a slowdown in real estate sales with the luxury market suffering alongside the market overall. Maine, with is low volatility and small fragmented property markets, continues to move ahead with respect to the luxury market. We are well along the way to another record year with the year-to-date statistics running 17% ahead of last year. As the #1 Luxury Property Company in Maine we have a bird’s eye view on all of the dynamics shaping the market. It is our opinion that Maine will continue to thrive in the current economic and regulatory environment given our ease of access, massive Atlantic Ocean coastline, abundant freshwater resources with 6,000 lakes and rivers, beautiful mountains, and low entry cost compared to most all of the Eastern Seaboard.
