Regardless, a life with less stress and more emotional well-being is best for long term health. Based on Energy Leadership™ there are two types of energy catabolic and anabolic. Catabolic energy is heavy, destructive and “breaks things down.” We express this energy when we experience emotional loss or some type of fight. Then think and write out a simple plan to do those tasks. By setting your intention you organize your energy. 3. Create Judgment Journal - Most situations are not black or white; right or wrong; they are what they are. Making judgments narrows options and limits our ability to create new ones. Here is the challenge: For at least 10 days write out every time you make a judgment. This includes judgments about yourself as well as others. 4. Be Authentic - Be open and honest about some part of your life with someone you trust. 5. Take Responsibility - Put your hands back on the wheel and direct your future. ctober is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with various fundraising events scheduled nationwide to bring communities together in the fight against this disease, which is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.

Worldwide, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women, and the second leading cause of death among women in the U.S. It can strike males as well, although male breast cancer is far less common.

It’s a disease that progresses when cells in breast tissue become damaged (malignant) and multiply to invade healthy surrounding tissue, forming tumors. When detected early, it is highly treatable, and many survivors do go on to lead long, productive lives. It’s estimated that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lifetime. Each year, more than 220,000 women in the United States receive a breast cancer diagnosis, and more than 40,000 will die. Among men, an estimated 2,150 will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 410 will die each year. The good news is that death rates from breast cancer internationally have been gradually trending downward since about 1990. This is due to successful educational efforts to increase awareness among woman of the importance of breast care, better screening techniques that result in earlier detection, and continually evolving and improving treatment options. Mary Washington Healthcare’s Stafford Hospital strives to provide the full range of screening, treatment, and support services so that women in Stafford and surrounding areas can receive world-class breast care without having to travel far from home. THE SIGNS OF BREAST CANCER

Having regular mammograms is a proven effective way to detect breast cancer in its early stages, but women can protect themselves daily by paying attention and noticing other warning signs, such as a lump, knot, or thickening in the breast or underarm area. The breast may also feel warm to the touch, swollen, or turn red, or darken. The sudden appearance of nipple discharge, or an itchy, scaly sore, or rash on the nipple may also indicate a problem. Women should also watch for changes in the size or shape of the breast, dimpling of the skin, pulling, or a new

The signs vary greatly from woman to woman, and in most cases they are not cancer. But if one or more symptoms appear, the best way to restore peace of mind is to get them checked by a physician to be sure they are nothing serious.

The treatment team understands the importance of having a game plan and strives to be highly responsive to each patient’s needs, whatever they may be. Women are typically scheduled for a consultation with a boardcertified breast cancer specialist within days of diagnosis, with treatment, or a surgical procedure scheduled to begin within days thereafter. MWHC has the surgical expertise onboard to remove cancerous tumors and reconstruct the breasts during one surgical procedure. This means that women only have to undergo one hospitalization, one round of anesthesia, and one recovery period. Not only do they awake from surgery with their breasts looking as natural as possible—which is an instant boost to self-confidence—but they are able to recover and resume normal daily activities sooner. All cancer patients at MWHC may have their clinical cases evaluated at regular conferences held by a team comprising the full range of related specialties, such as radiologists, oncologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, and other experts. BREAST CANCER TREATMENT OPTIONS

The navigator may also make recommendations for physical therapy and rehabilitation, genetic counseling, support groups, nutrition consults, transportation, financial assistance, spiritual and emotional support, education and access to clinical trials, resources for family members, and survivorship support.
