ominations are open for the 2018 Florence D. Helms Award, Stafford County information officer Shannon Howell announced. The award was established in 1975 in memory of Florence D. Helms, who made significant contributions to the youth of Stafford County. The award has been given to individuals who made an outstanding contribution in the areas of recreation, education, guidance, health or other fields that contributed to the character development of county youth. the 88th District on Nov. 27, even as questions persist about irregularities in both Stafford County-area races. Thomas’ 82-vote victory in the seat once held by outgoing House Speaker Bill Howell has attracted particularly close scrutiny, as it’s one of three razor-close races that could ultimately decide control of the House — Republicans hold a 51-49 advantage after major Democratic gains in the Nov. 7 elections. In all, elections officials discovered

that at least 147 voters were given the wrong ballots in the 2nd District, 28th District and 88th District. Several of those voters who were planning to vote for Democrat Josh Cole teamed up to file a federal lawsuit last week aiming to block any certification of the election, but a judge declined to intervene in the case. U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis did tell those plaintiffs, who are being 28TH DISTRICT
