he Stafford County School Board unanimously agreed Tuesday to allow its superintendent to form a committee to address equity and diversity issues among the student population. The committee, to be formed
through Superintendent Bruce Benson, is also expected to focus on opportunities for minorities in Stafford’s public schools. The vote drew applause from residents attending the school board meeting and board Chairwoman Holly Hazard, Hartwood District, said, “This is a great blueprint for us to get started.” The group, tentatively referred to as the SCPS Equity, Diversity and Opportunity Committee, will be
composed of teachers, school-based and central office administrators, parents, students, and community members. It will include a larger, broad group plus seven subcommittees tasked with discussing: • achievement gaps in reading and math
