The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted May 2 to approve a $4.1 billion general-fund budget for fiscal year 2018 that holds the county’s real-estate tax rate steady and provides a modest funding increase to the school system. Supervisors, who last year approved a 4-cent increase in the real-estate tax rate, voted to maintain the current rate of $1.13 per $100 assessed value. County supervisors agreed to transfer $2.19 billion to Fairfax County Public School, including $1.97 billion for operations, $189.1 million for debt service and $13.1 million for construction. The school transfer amounts to 52.8 percent of the county’s general-fund budget. Supervisors voted on several separate motions regarding the budget and tax rates, all but one of which passed unanimously. The new budget will take effect July 1 at the start of fiscal year 2018. Supervisors held Continued on Page 25
