Differences between the National Park Service and Friends of Claude Moore Colonial Farm persist, despite a June 20 community briefing at Dolley Madison
Library in McLean. Park Service officials said this spring that because the friends group would not agree to a modernized memorandum of understanding, the park would close Dec. 21. The proposed agreement would have matched laws and current policies that
apply to thousands of the agency’s other partners, officials said. But friends-group leaders said the park service was imposing heavy new requirements and was unwilling to offer the longterm agreement they had sought. During his June 20 presentation on the
