Major Offenses Up Slightly, Crashes Down Across Vienna BRIAN TROMPETER Staff Writer

Vienna experienced a slight uptick in major crimes, but declines in many areas, including traffic crashes, according to statistics town police released May 18. Police in 2017 investigated 464 “Group A” offenses (including crimes against people and property), which marked a decline of about one-quarter from the 624 incidents reported in 2016. Crimes against persons were up in 2017, with 77 such offenses compared with 68 the previous year. Last year’s figure is slightly under the five-year average of 77.7 such offenses. There were 82 crimes against persons in 2013, 79 in 2014 and 83 in 2015.
