Four Vienna Town Council members, including the mayor, cruised unopposed to victory in the town’s May 1 election and each offered ideas on what direction the town should take during their next two-year terms. Mayor Laurie DiRocco, who first was

elected to the Town Council in 2009 and was appointed and then elected mayor in 2014 following the death of M. Jane Seeman, said she would look at traffic calming and ways of moving vehicles more efficiently through the town. The Council also will focus soon on renovating Vienna Police Headquarters and examining redevelopment proposals along Maple Avenue. DiRocco also
looked forward to the redevelopment of an abandoned gas-station site at Park Street and Maple Avenue, E., which has been vacant since 2009. “When I first became mayor, I wrote a letter to [British Petroleum] because they didn’t keep up that site,” she said. “It will be nice to see what happens there. It’s been ages in the making and isn’t quite in the bag yet, but a proposed swap of Fairfax County’s Langley Oaks Park for federally owned Langley Fork Park is nearing fruition, federal and county officials say. The National Park Service and Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) have worked for years on the land exchange, and officials said they hope a deal can be finalized by the end of the year. Local residents reviewed four development options for Langley Fork Park during an April 24 informational meeting at Franklin Sherman Elementary School in McLean. The land swap would let the National Park Service protect natural resources in the Potomac Gorge and avoid managing recreational ball fields within the George Washington Memorial Parkway. County and federal officials are mulling four alternatives, all of which would retain a minimum 250-foot forested buffer between Langley Fork’s northern boundary and any new athletic fields or recreational facilities. • Alternative No. 1 would preserve
