A two-lane roundabout, made possible by the realignment of Sunset Hills Road, eventually may be built at Hunter Mill and Crowell roads in the Vienna/Reston area. The Board of Supervisors on March 6 unanimously signed off on a proposed Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) comprehensive-plan amendment that calls for the realignment of Sunset Hills Road to the intersection of Hunter Mill and Crowell roads, construction of a roundabout there and widening Hunter Mill Road to four lanes between the Dulles Toll Road’s westbound ramps and Crowell Road. While the roundabout option would cost about $3 million more than the traffic signal, it would help preserve Hunter Mill Road’s character by slowing down traffic headed into more residential areas to the north, county staff said. Transportation planners have sought improvements in this vicinity since 1975. The Virginia Department of Transportation studied possible upgrades in 2000, and Fairfax County’s
