Vienna Town Council elections often draw a slew of candidates when at least one seat is open, but when all the incumbents are running, challengers rarely enter the fray. All four incumbents whose seats are up for grabs in the May 1 election announced their re-election bids in January and no one else filed before the March 6 deadline to challenge them, Fairfax County election officials said. Mayor Laurie DiRocco, who was elected to the Council in 2009, was appointed by the Council in spring 2014 to succeed the late Mayor M. Jane Seeman. DiRocco ran unopposed in regular May elections in 2014 and 2016. The former chairman of the Vienna Planning Commission and Transportation Safety Commission told the Sun Gazette earlier this year that she prides herself on engaging with town residents and seeking their opinions on issues. “When I need to make a decision or I vote on something, I seek input from lots of different people
