2015 BEST OF LOUDOUN | JANUARY

RESULTS

The readers have spoken. And in the 20th year of Leesburg Today’s Best of Loudoun poll, they’ve spoken with more voices and variety than ever. Since 1995, we’ve asked readers to tell us about the best people, businesses and places that make Loudoun County a special place to live and work. This year, almost 10,000 readers logged in online to cast more than 107,000 votes for their favorites. The county has changed tremendously during the past two decades and the poll results reflect a continued dedication to old-Loudoun favorites as well as the popularity of the new businesses and services that followed that growth. It wasn’t all that long ago that moviegoers had the choice of either watching one of the two flicks showing at Leesburg’s Tally Ho or driving to the multiplexes in Reston or Tyson’s Corner. This year, two of the poll’s top-10 overall vote getters are Loudoun movie houses—Cobb and Alamo—that not only show all of the latest releases, but offer atyour-seat dining as well. And the Tally Ho has transformed from the big screen to the big stage, voted as Loudoun’s best place to see live music. The food categories also were among the most popular with voters this year. Relative newcomer Melt landed the top prize in the competitive best hamburger section. Meanwhile, venerable Mom’s Apple Pie retained its title as the most popular place for pies and pastries. The best pizza category highlights the efforts of longtime restaurateur Kevin Malone, who established Leesburg’s fine-dining tradition in the mid-‘80s with the opening of Tuscarora Restaurant, to adapt to the community’s changing demographics with Fireworks Pizza. In the pages that follow are the winners and runners-up in scores of categories covering virtually every aspect of life in Loudoun. This spring, many of the winners will gather for a special event—the “Best of Loudoun Bazaar”—that will give residents the ability to meet the men and women cited for their extraordinary community contributions. Scheduled for Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Village at Leesburg, the event also will include entertainment and other activities. Keep an eye on Leesburg Today and our website, leesburgtoday.com, for more details.
