Garrison command team listens to feedback Focus on customer service By Adrienne Anderson Staff writer The focus of U.S. Army Garrison Fort Belvoir Commander Lt. Col. Chris Tomlinson’s town hall with garrison employees last week was to gain honest feedback from them about their work and what they want to see improved. Tomlinson, Command Sgt. Maj. Corey Perry and Steve Brooks, deputy to the garrison commander, spoke to the audience and hosted a Q&A session. Tomlinson discussed employees’ top five questions they asked in a recent questionnaire and other topics. After creating an employee-led forum where sections discussed their real opinions on the garrison environment, Tomlinson said establishing mutual trust and communication was needed to move forward as a team. “We have to take a mutual interest in each and every body and their personal growth at any

– our mutual success in it.” Kelly Burger, who works in manpower at garrison’s Directorate of Resource Management, provided infomation about a new program to better engage and reward employees at all levels, called the Service Culture Initiative. Leaders from several garrison directorates presented key aspects of the program during the town hall. CSI is made up of four areas: onboarding, recognition, operational excellence, and leader engagement. It will be launched in January. Burger said for the program to grow and work for the garrison, garrison needs feedback for implementation, to make changes and fit the organization’s needs. “We are really excited about this initiative,” she said. “We want it to be enduring. We want it to be sustained, but, most importantly, we want it to be effective.” Within the organization, it’s
important to treat each other with dignity and respect and establish a high level of mutual trust, said Tomlinson. “How we do anything in executing our mission each and every day, when it’s done with dignity and respect, is a key component and ingredient of being successful in accomplishing our mission,” Tomlinson said. The garrison’s top mission as an Army organization is to support and sustain the needs of more than 150 mission partners on Belvoir, he said. “We are very, very good at what we do through resource constraints,” he said. “I’ve never seen a level of precision like this organization does on a daily basis, especially when the Army is making conscious, prioritized decisions to remove resources and monies. That we still do what’s needed with the level of expertise and precision that this organization does is phenomenal.”
