preserve, we recognize the magnitude and significance of their service. Every veteran had personal reasons for joining the military. Yet, they all contributed toward preserving American liberty.” The event added a personal touch to a holiday recognized throughout the nation, MacGregor said. During the ceremony, employees saw a video of their colleagues of pictures of them when they were in the military, compared to current pictures. See VETERANS, Page A7
Elementary campus hosts career fair By Adrienne Anderson Staff writer
Fort Belvoir Elementary Campus students got firsthand looks at what adults do in their jobs Nov. 3, during the school’s Career and Higher Education Fair. “The purpose is to help our students, from prekindergarten to sixth grade, realize that they can start thinking about what profession they would like to have in the future. We’re helping them make the connection between academic studies and real-world needs,” said Ellen Bowditch, a counselor at Fort Belvoir Elementary School. With the two schools’ focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math careers, Bowditch said she wanted the students to ask the adults questions about how they use math in their jobs. “We talk with kids about their strengths, and their likes and dislikes. All of that determines what they might want to do one day. So, what we want them to do, is to start dreaming now, but make that connection,” she said. Sixth graders Maqualla Alston and Natasha Windt already have an idea of what they are considering for See CAREER, Page A7
