Dignitaries join Maj. Gen. Timothy Williams, adjutant general of Virginia, center, as they break ground for the 91st Cyber Brigade Headquarters on Fort Belvoir, Friday.

Cyber Brigade breaks ground on Belvoir By Adrienne Anderson Staff writer The Virginia Army National Guard’s 91st Cyber Brigade broke ground for its new building on Fort Belvoir, Friday. Maj. Gen. Timothy Williams, adjutant general of Virginia, said the plans for the facility began four years ago. “The fact that we are here, today, is a testament to the hard

work, and frankly the nation’s requirements that dictate what we are trying to do,” he said, thanking those who helped put together the facility’s plans. Senior leaders are proud of the work the brigade does, Williams said. “Today, we formally start this building for the 91st Cyber Brigade, at least portions. This recognized previous work to build the formation itself -- the Soldiers,

equipment, training, readiness, and the actual capabilities that we bring to the warfighter, said Col. Adam Volant, 91st Cyber Brigade’s commander. “Many people have been a part of that and many of you are here today,” he said. The 42,000 square foot building will be on Black Road off of Goethals Road. The 91st Cyber Brigade is the Virginia Guard’s first cyber brigade, and was activated Sept. 17, 2017, at

Belvoir, according to the Virginia National Guard website. The brigade is responsible for training cyber units in 30 states. Volant thanked Col. Michael Greenberg, Fort Belvoir Garrison commander, for his hospitality. “We look forward to being tenants on post and joining the great growth here at Fort Belvoir,” he said. “We’ll be close to our partners on the installation.”
