O’Connell Graduates Ready for the Future

With their high-school careers behind them, senior Luke Brinkmann stressed to his fellow Bishop O’Connell graduates to remember what they learned over the four years in a way to help others. “We need to give so others may enjoy life the way we do,” Brinkmann said in his salutatory address at O’Connell’s 57th commencement exercise, held at noontime June 1 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Brinkmann discussed the vast variety of talent among the graduates – in the classroom, on the athletic fields and entertainment areas. “High school is a roller coaster, but it is an amazing ride,” Brinkmann said. “What we have done here is just the beginning. We must carry on and persevere and share our mission of kindness with others. The hybrid proposal was a late-in-theprocess recommendation, coming after school officials studied placing all 1,300 seats either at the Career Center, Education Center or adjacent to Kenmore Middle School. The hybrid proposal has garnered the support of School Board Chairman Nancy Van Doren, who said it would allow for growth without breaking the bank. But Murphy’s recommendation was decried by some as a bit of a curve ball. Continued on Page 25
