Historic Status for Education Center? Proposal Could Complicate ON THE HUNT FOR EASTER EGGS!

Choice of High-School Site SCOTT McCAFFREY Staff Writer

A proposal to grant historic status to the 1960s-era Arlington Education Center need not upset the timeline for determining the location of the county’s next high school, the proposal’s chief proponent says. Planning Commission member Nancy Iacomini on March 30 formally asked the County Board to consider bestowing historic status on the five-story structure, located on North Quincy Street adjacent to Washington-Lee High School. “The building’s a great building. Let’s keep it,” Iacomini said in an April 9 interview. Her request also includes the adjacent David M. Brown Planetarium, a single-story domed structure. Under Arlington historic-preservation guidelines, Iacomini’s nomination is required to be reviewed by county historic-preservation staff.
