As they gas up the tank for a twomonth sprint to Election Day, Arlington County Democrats may find themselves representing the difference between victory and defeat statewide – and the message the result sends in the first major election of the Donald Trump era. “You are in an enviable position. The nation is watching, history has its eyes on us,” Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez said at the Arlington County Democratic Committee’s annual Labor Day chili cookoff, which drew several hundred to Lyon Park Community Center. Fortified by a vast array of chili options and enjoying a welcome break from traditional late-summer humidity, the party’s rank-and-file enjoyed the political equivalent of a high-school pep rally as they moved into political high gear. “We need you to work harder than ever before. We’ve got to get out there. We’re going to get [victories] by working
