County Board Punts on Field-Lighting Issue

A divisive community controversy that might have been put to rest Sept. 16 was not, as Arlington County Board members
kicked the can down the road on a decision relating to lighting athletic fields at Williamsburg Middle School. In a unanimous but far from cheerful vote, County Board members rebuffed, for now, a staff proposal to add lighting to
two synthetic-turf fields, which would extend their usability into the evening hours and help address a shortage of field space for growing youth leagues in the county. The vote was a (perhaps temporary) win for some residents living near the
