Transportation, taxes and the role of government in daily life took center stage as the four Democratic candidates for Arlington County Board squared off in

preparation for caucus voting this week. The four contenders – Vivek Patil, Kim Klingler, Peter Fallon and Erik Gutshall – are seeking to succeed County Board Chairman Jay Fisette, who is not seeking re-election after 20 years in office. Turnout over the course of three days

At the forum, there were few fireworks, perhaps because of the caucus’s instantrunoff process, which rewards candidates who not only win support of their own backers, but are the second choice of those backing other candidates, as well. Voters “are looking for substance . . . and real solutions,” said Fallon, who like Klingler and Gutshall has unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for County Board in past years.
