Student Growth Puts Crimp on Outdoor Lab

Middle-Schoolers May Lose Future Visits to the Beloved Fauquier County Nature Preserve SCOTT McCAFFREY Staff Writer

Rising enrollment in Arlington’s public schools is putting the squeeze on outdoor-education programs, and middleschoolers could be the ones to pay the price. Former House of Delegates members Bob Brink and Judy Connally were among those on hand March 22 as the Library of Virginia celebrated the late Mary Marshall as one of its eight 2018 Virginia Women in History honorees. Marshall (1921-92) made the list for her work as a member for two decades representing Arlington in the House of Delegates, where she championed public education and equal rights. Annual inductions to the Virginia Women in History pantheon have been made since 2000; this year’s inductees (whose lifespans ranged from the 1600s to the present day) also included Gaye Todd Adegbalola, Rita Dove, Isabella Gibbons, Marii Kyogoku Hasegawa, Kay Coles James, Barbara Kingsolver and Temperance Flowerdew Yeardley.
