A pastel drawing of the Rosslyn skyline and Potomac River won the Arlington County Treasurer’s Office’s 2018 decal competition, with the image ultimately to be affixed to 160,000 vehicle windshields across the county. Bishop O’Connell High School junior Schuyler Workmaster, who was a finalist each of the previous two years, emerged the winner after community voting that drew a record 3,619 ballots cast, up 11 percent from a year before. “We can’t wait to see your work” on vehicles, County Board Chairman Katie Cristol told Workmaster when she was announced the winner from a field of four

Currently, naming (and renaming) of major roads largely is the province of the General Assembly and Commonwealth Transportation Board. “The chair of the Transportation Committee felt the state had an interest

It shouldn’t,” she said. Eventually, even if there are areas where no consensus is reached, “you’re going to have to kick it upstairs” for commission and County Board action, Iacomini said. The hospital – located on North

Va. Senate Committee Says ‘No’ to Favola’s Highway-Renaming Effort SCOTT McCAFFREY Staff Writer

The state legislature is keeping the handcuffs on localities’ ability to rename highways, making it somewhere between difficult and impossible for Arlington leaders to remove the name of Jefferson Davis from U.S. Route 1 through the county. The Senate Committee on Transportation voted a party-line 7-6 on Jan. 31 to kill legislation proposed by state Sen.
